‘Fixer Upper’ Returning to TV: Chip and Joanna Gaines Announce New Season Coming to Magnolia Network
Fixer Upper is returning to TV, with Chip and Joanna Gaines announcing the show’s reboot in a new promo video. It’s been a bit since the couple graced HGTV with their home makeover show with a lot of heart — and fans are thrilled to hear that a new season of Fixer Upper is coming to their Magnolia Network in 2021.
Chip and Joanna Gaines are back with a new season of ‘Fixer Upper’
Chip and Joanna Gaines made their announcement in a cute video, as Chip drives Jo to an unknown location. “I saw that you put your hammer and your tool belt in the back,” Joanna says. “What’s that about?”
He’s coy at first, then tells her, “I’m sorry Jo, I’ve got to tell you something. I’ve got a surprise for you. I think you’re going to love it, you’re going to be happy.”
“You always start mad, but then you get happy later,” Chip added. “This is going to be fun.”
He drives up to a house, telling her not to look — and when he reveals the home, he explains, “I signed us up for another season of Fixer Upper!”
“I answered the office phone, like you told me never to do,” he joked.
“I’ve kind of missed it,” she admitted. The title “Fixer Upper Coming 2021” gives fans all the information they have long been waiting for.
Why are they bringing ‘Fixer Upper’ back?
In a blog post titled “Another Season,” Chip explains what happened when they ended the show… and why it’s coming back.
“The day we wrapped our final episode of Fixer Upper, we really believed it was a chapter closed,” he writes. “A bittersweet ending to a season of our lives that we couldn’t have been more grateful for. In that moment, the future was a little uncertain, but Jo and I were sure of a few things. We knew we needed a break and a moment to catch our breath.”
Chip explains that they have still been “tackling renovations and projects that we’ve both been passionate about, including a few really special ones that we can’t wait for you to watch unfold on the network when it launches.”
The decision to bring Fixer Upper back, Chip admits, was very recent. “I mean it when I say that it wasn’t more than a few weeks ago that we first talked about returning to the show. I mentioned it to Jo, fully expecting her to tell me I was crazy. But instead, in a real sincere way, she told me she’d been missing it too.”
He continues, “I get that it all may seem a little impulsive and that might be true. But the more Jo and I talked it over, the more we began to see it for what it really is: an opportunity to get to share with you some of the projects we care most about.”
How will the new season of ‘Fixer Upper’ be different?
Of course, fans are looking for all the details they can get and Chip provides a glimpse in his blog post. “In a lot of ways, the show is going to pick up right where it left off,” he assures. “These years in between have taught us a lot about ourselves and how we operate best, so we’re likely to do a few things a little differently this time around.”
“We’re gearing up to start filming again, and I’ll be honest, Jo and I feel like a couple of kids trying our best to keep down a few butterflies,” he writes. “But we are mostly just giddy about getting the band back together again so we can share the story of these families and their homes with you.”
