‘Friends’ Actor Matthew Perry Has ‘Always’ Secretly Loved Co-Star Courteney Cox, Report Says

Many Friends fans champion Ross and Rachel’s on-off romance, but Chandler and Monica’s relationship is arguably the most iconic. Though they initially seemed like an unlikely pair, they grew together, forming a strong, indelible bond.

Offscreen, Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox, who played the characters, seemed close, too. There were even rumors that they dated after the show ended its nine-year run in 2004. But, while the claims are debatable, a new report says that Perry has definitely had a thing for his former co-star.

A closer look at the latest report on Perry and Cox

On Nov. 13, Us Weekly reported that Perry “has always hoped for a real-life relationship with his former costar.”

“Matthew’s always been in love with her,” a source told the outlet.

“Matthew has never fully been able to get over her,” the insider added.

As of writing, it appears that neither Cox or Perry has acknowledged the report.

Unfortunately, Cox is currently off the market. She’s in a relationship with Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid. Meanwhile, Perry seems to be single after ending his six-year relationship with Lizzy Caplan in 2012.

But she and Perry still come together as friends. On Nov. 7, the former co-stars met up and grabbed lunch together. Cox shared a photo of them to her Instagram page, captioning the shot, “Could I BE any happier? #realfriends.”

Some of their other co-stars rushed to comment on the post, including Jennifer Aniston, who wrote: “MATTY!! ❤️❤️❤️ I LOVE YOU, GUYS.” Lisa Kudrow also chimed in, adding, “Lucky lucky. #beautifulpeople.”

Inside the rumors that Perry and Cox dated

This latest update comes four years after rumors surfaced that Perry and Cox had started dating following her brief split from McDaid. The rumors stemmed from a photo of Perry and Cox having lunch together.

‘It’s no surprise that Matthew was one of the first people Courteney called after Johnny left her,” a source told Perez Hilton. “They’ve leaned on each other before. There isn’t any pressure to put a label on it just yet, but they’re excited to see where this might go.”

However, The Sunday Mirror reports that the photo was actually taken in 2005, just a year after Friends wrapped.

The ‘Friends’ cast is reportedly trying to help Perry find someone else

A source told In Touch Weekly on Nov. 14 that Perry’s former co-stars are trying to set him up with another woman.

“The guys would love to play matchmaker to Matt. He was on the dating apps for a while, but his former costars think he should ditch them to meet a more appropriate woman,” the insider said.

“They’re rallying around Matt to make him feel loved, especially Courteney, who hates seeing her pal so lonely,” the source continued. “While their careers have flourished since Friends, Matt’s spent years battling his demons and rarely leaves the house.”

We can’t guarantee that the claims are true. But there’s good news happening for Perry and the rest of the crew. According to a Nov. 12 report from The Hollywood Reporter, a Friends reunion special is in the works at HBO Max.

So, though he might not get Cox IRL, he could have another shot at playing her TV husband, which seems better than nothing.
