‘Friends’ Star David Schwimmer Reveals What He’s ‘Honestly Most Looking Forward to’ About the Upcoming HBO Max Reunion Special

Every week from 1994 to 2004, the cast of one of TV’s biggest hits was there for fans. Now, despite a delay due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Friends reunion special is back in business over at HBO Max.

Fans couldn’t be more excited to see the stars of one of TV history’s most enduring sitcoms come together again. And the actors themselves seem equally thrilled. David Schwimmer recently revealed the part of the upcoming special he’s most excited about.

The cast of NBC’s ‘Friends’ is getting ready to reunite on HBO Max

For years, rumors about some kind of a Friends reunion or reboot have lingered in the air. But while most of the actors have seemed relatively open to the idea of revisiting the show in some form, nothing ever came together. It wasn’t until WarnerMedia’s new streaming service, HBO Max, that it started to become reality.

But the reunion isn’t what some fans thought it might be. Rather than an in-character, one-time continuation of the series, the special will be an unscripted reflection on the show. Sixteen years after the Friends ended, it remains one of the most popular TV shows of all time. And the HBO Max special will likely feature a look back of sorts on its impact.

David Schwimmer shared the most exciting part of the reunion

Schwimmer — who, of course, played Ross Geller — was part of arguably the show’s most popular storyline. The on-again/off-again romance between Ross and Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel persisted for the entire 10-season run. Now, in a recent interview with E! News to discuss his new show Intelligence, Schwimmer opened up about the best part of filming the reunion special.

I guess what I’m honestly most looking forward to is just being in the room with those other five actors. It’s five, right? That was a joke. But being on the actual soundstage on the actual set for the first time in 10 years, the set that we shot on for 10 years, that to me is going to be a really meaningful experience.

After devoting such a significant portion of their lives to Friends, it stands to reason the actors would have nostalgic feelings about revisiting the past. While the six stars have kept in touch and even worked together over the years, the HBO Max special will hit much closer to home.

When can the show’s devoted fans finally see the six stars together?

Although it was among the first pieces of original content discussed for HBO Max, the Friends reunion was not available for the launch. Rather, the pandemic led to filming being postponed. So far, it looks like the special might be filmed toward the end of summer 2020.

HBO Max has yet to announce a release date. But in the meantime, all 10 seasons of Friends are available to stream on HBO Max. So fans anxious to get themselves hyped up for the inevitable reunion have plenty of old episodes to revisit.
