‘Friends’ Star Lisa Kudrow Doesn’t Watch Reruns Because She’s Saving Herself for a Cast Binge
Friends is one of the most popular sitcoms that has ever appeared on television, and most of us can’t stop binging it. The beloved show follows the six titular “Friends” as they navigate life in New York City, career issues, romantic relationships, and perhaps most importantly – you guessed it – friendship.
The show was a huge success when it was on-air, and has won multiple Emmys and Golden Globes. The six protagonists were played by David Schwimmer (Ross), Matthew Perry (Chandler), Matt LeBlanc (Joey), Courteney Cox (Monica), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), and Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), and all six of these actors had their career launched by the immediate success of this show.
All six cast members are notoriously close friends in real life, and recently Kudrow sat down with Aniston on a virtual interview to reminisce about their days on Friends and talk about what both of them are up to now. You’d think that all of the show’s stars would love watching the show’s re-runs as much as the rest of us, but Kudrow revealed that she never watches Friends episodes for a very good reason.
Lisa Kudrow reminisced about ‘Friends’ with co-star Jennifer Anniston
Kudrow and Aniston (who play Phoebe and Rachel, respectively) recently sat down for a video chat for Variety magazine to talk about their current TV projects and to reminisce about their days on Friends. Interestingly, they’ve both recently acted alongside comedian Steve Carell; Aniston in The Morning Show, and Kudrow in Space Force.
Fans loved watching these two talk about how they feel when they watch episodes of Friends now. Aniston hilariously shared that the last time she and Courteney Cox (who played Monica) hung out, they spent hours just watching bloopers of themselves from filming.
“I love stumbling on a Friends episode. This one time I was with Courteney, and we were trying to find something to reference, an old Friends thing. And then we stumbled on — there’s bloopers online — and we sat there at the computer like two nerds watching these bloopers laughing at ourselves,” Aniston revealed. Kudrow shared that she also watches bloopers of the cast online to remember the good old days.
The reason Kudrow won’t watch ‘Friends’ episodes by herself
Although she did say she watches the bloopers, Kudrow also shared that she won’t watch full re-run episodes of Friends. When asked why not, she had a very good reason. “I don’t watch the show. I’m still not watching it in the hopes that one day we sit down and watch them together,” Kudrow told Aniston. That makes complete sense: watching old episodes of your own show would be so much more meaningful of an experience if it were to be shared with the people you created the show with! Thankfully, Aniston agreed: “I think it would be a lot of fun for us to do something like that,” she said. If the day ever comes where the six “friends” sit down together for a Friends binge, we hope it’s filmed so we get to see their reactions!
What’s next for ‘Friends’
Kudrow and Aniston also touched on the question that Friends fans are dying to know the answer to: will there be a Friends reunion? There was recently a plan for HBO Max to release a Friends reunion special, and fans are holding their breath with excitement. However, because of the current pandemic, filming has been delayed, and there’s not yet a release date in sight. However, it seems like Kudrow and Aniston are just as hopeful as the rest of us for the reunion to really happen.
“I think it’s going to be really fun also when we, if we ever get out of quarantine, get to do our reunion show,” Aniston commented in the video chat, to which Kudrow responded: “Yes, that will be really great. I can’t wait to do that. I really can’t wait to do that.” We can’t wait either!
