From the amazing visuals to the incredible vocals, these are the talented musicians who completely wowed fans with their performances.

The show was off to an electrifying start

If you watched the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards, you already know that Taylor Swift opened the show and did not disappoint.

The singer opened up with a colorful performance of her hit song “You Need To Calm Down,” complete with rainbows and a choreographed routine.

Swift then pulled out her acoustic guitar and serenaded the crowd with her latest ballad, “Lover”, as the entire crowd swayed to her beautiful vocals.

Following Taylor Swift, Lizzo was the next performer who had audience members and those at home on their feet.

The singer performed a medley of her hits “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell,” along with her trusty back-up dancers who kept the high energy flowing.

To make Lizzo’s performance even more iconic, she also had a gigantic inflatable derriére floating behind her.

Normani was one of the last performers of the evening with the debut of her new single, “Motivation.”

While this was the singer’s first television performance as a solo artist, the former Fifth Harmony member did not disappoint as she wowed viewers with her impressive, spot-on choreography.

Missy Elliott still knows how to wow a crowd

The biggest moment many viewers were patiently waiting to see was Missy Elliot take the stage as this year’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award recipient.

From the moment she stepped on stage, Missy Elliot didn’t miss a beat as she performed a variety of her hit singles, from “Pass That Dutch” to “Work It” to “Lose Control.”

Though this was Elliot’s first VMA performance in more than a decade, the hitmaker delivered astonishing effects and epic dance numbers, as she recreated the setting of her iconic music videos.

Missy Elliott’s incredible performance even included an appearance by Alyson Stoner, who was a child dancer in the original 2002 music video for “Work It.”

In addition to her many accomplishments from this year alone, Missy Elliott’s performance just proves that being recognized as the Video Vanguard Award recipient was long overdue.

A few stars gave fans all of the feels with their performances

While most of the performances from the 2019 MTV VMAs were high energy and got the crowd on their feet, there were a few performances that exuded emotion.

Miley Cyrus took to the VMA stage just two weeks after splitting from Liam Hemsworth and had the most emotional performance of the night.

Cyrus sang her new breakup track, “Slide Away,” for the first time on TV in a stripped-down performance that was shot in black and white.

The other performance full of emotion was Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello’s sensual duet of their hit song, “Señorita.”

Ever since it was revealed that these two became a real-life couple, fans have been anxiously waiting to see them perform live together.

During the 2019 VMAs, Mendes and Cabello proved just how strong their chemistry really is as their sexual tension was through the roof.

From dancing right up against one another to gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes, this performance would have topped all of the rest if they just locked lips.

The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards was definitely one for the books and if this year’s show was any indication of what’s to come in music, we can’t wait to see what these musicians deliver in the near future.
