‘The Shield’

The Shield debuted on FX way back in 2002 and proved to be a trailblazing series for the network. Based on the success of The Shield, FX felt confident about investing in other originals, opening the door for many of the shows on this list.

Shawn Ryan created the series, which follows a group of corrupt police officers headed by Detective Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis). Mackey and his fellow officers bend and break the law whenever they feel it is necessary, though their behavior is often at the detriment of criminals.

The show lasted seven seasons on FX and was highly praised for its series finale. It might take you a while to binge-watch this one on Hulu, but it is definitely time well spent.

‘Justified’

Who does not like a contemporary Western? Justified is based on a short story from Elmore Leonard and was adapted to the small screens by Graham Yost. Not only does the series feature some amazing writing, but it also has some of the best actors TV has to offer.

The show — which dropped all 6 seasons on Hulu — stars the likes of Timothy Olyphant, who plays a U.S. Marshal by the name of Raylan Givens, and Walton Goggins, who plays an outlaw named Boyd Crowder.

Givens and Crowder grew up together in Kentucky and chose completely different paths as adults. While Givens became an officer of the law, Crowder used his wit to become a clever criminal, putting the pair on opposite sides of the judicial system.

After its conclusion in 2015, TV Guide named Justified as the fourth best show of the decade.

‘American Horror Story’

If you are looking for a good horror series to binge on Hulu over the next few weeks, look no further than American Horror Story.

Created by Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck) and Brad Falchuk (Glee), AHS is an anthology horror show, which each season being its own miniseries complete with different characters. The series has several actors that appear in multiple seasons, but each year introduces at least one or two fresh faces to the mix.

AHS is comprised of 9 seasons that span different locations and timeframes, ranging from haunted houses and covens to psychiatric wards.

Because FX is now owned by Disney, Hulu is planning on streaming new episodes of AHS the day after they premiere. Season 10 of the popular series is scheduled to return sometime this year.

‘Sons of Anarchy’

Apart from The Shield, Sons of Anarchy is easily one of the most popular shows FX has to offer and now fans and binge all 7 seasons on Hulu. The series was created by Kurt Sutter (who wrote and directed on The Shield) and ran between 2008 and 2014.

Sons of Anarchy follows the story of a biker gang in a fictional town in California called Charming. The plot revolves around Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam), who rises through the ranks to become the president of the club, and explores themes like loyalty, family, brotherhood, and tragedy.

The show’s premieres for season 4 and 5 were the highest-rated episodes in the history of FX.

‘Atlanta’

Donald Glover’s popular series, Atlanta, has been praised by fans and critics alike. The comedy-drama is about the lives of young rappers in the Atlanta area who are trying to make it big in the music industry.

The series has taken home some prestigious awards during the first two seasons. This includes a pair of Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor — Television Series Musical or Comedy (Glover) and Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy.

Glover also won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, the first time an African-American has won the award.

Aside from Glover, the show stars the likes of Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry, and Lakeith Stanfield.

FX on Hulu also allows fans to watch the Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans MC, the highly acclaimed Better Things, and classics like Nip/Tuck and Fargo.
