It’s been a long time, but HBO has finally started the final season of Game of Thrones. Season seven ended August 17, 2017, so fans have had to wait almost two years to see what happens to the residents of Westeros. Season eight premiered April 14 and fans have just six episodes to see how the show will end.

Over the years, the show has become HBO’s most successful series of all time. The drama holds the record for the most Primetime Emmy awards and also kills it in the ratings. Before Game of Thrones, HBO’s most successful series was The Sopranos. At its peak, The Sopranos brought in 20 million viewers a week. For most of the series, Game of Thrones stayed on par with those numbers, but season seven saw viewers jump to over 30 million per episode.

For fans of Game of Thrones, there was no better news than when HBO announced that they would be producing a prequel to their hit series. The series will take place in a period called the long night. It will cover the events that happened thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones.

The series, which will star Naomi Watts, is not yet in production, but it is expected to begin filming soon. Martin said of the series: “I’ve been following along closely. I have my fingers crossed. It’s different. It’s definitely very different. It’s set thousands of years in the past. You’re looking at a whole different era of Westeros. No dragons, no Iron Throne, no King’s Landing. It will be interesting to see what the fans make of that.”

True fans of the show know that the series began to stray from the books a few seasons ago. But the fact that the show doesn’t closely follow the books is somewhat irrelevant because even the books haven’t disclosed the ending. That’s because there are still two books in the Game of Thrones series that have yet to be released.

But there are a few people that know how the show will end. Production has wrapped and the cast has gone home. They are now in charge of keeping the show’s ending a secret until after May 19.

And even though Martin is no longer with the show, he did talk to the show’s creators about how it would end. As such, the creators have known the way the show would end for quite some time now and kept it one of Hollywood’s best-kept secrets.
