‘Game of Thrones’: The Missing Scene That Could Have Changed The End

The finale of Game of Thrones did not satisfy many fans. While some were no doubt happy to have some kind of closure for the show, others felt that many of the characters did not reach satisfying conclusions. Even those that had good endings were not always treated with the respect they deserved.

Yet it’s possible that a deleted scene would have improved things for some fans. It would have likely affected many fans’ opinions in a positive way about one character: Sansa Stark. Like all fictional characters, she has her fans and she has those who dislike her. While hardcore Sansa fans are likely excited about her ending, there are also those who aren’t.

However, it could have been different if a deleted scene had made it into the final cut of the show.

What is the deleted scene that would’ve changed reactions to the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale?

This scene, funnily enough, doesn’t actually happen in the Game of Thrones finale, but episodes before. During the episode “The Long Night,” the highly-anticipated battle between the main characters of the story and the Night King and his White Walkers happens. Fortunately, thanks to Arya Stark, the heroes, and antiheroes at Winterfell all come out on top. Sansa, meanwhile, is in the crypts with Tyrion and all the rest of those who aren’t exactly fighters.

The scene, shown on EW’s website, features White Walkers, perhaps dead Starks themselves terrorizing the crypts of Winterfell. Sansa and Tyrion run around, trying their best to evade the creepy creatures. Then the White Walkers make a mistake: they go after Missandei, Gilly, and Baby Sam. Just as they’re closing in, about to go in for the kill, they fall to the floor, Sansa and Tyrion behind them.

Why might keeping this scene in have affected fans’ reactions to the ‘Game of Thrones’ finale?

At the end of Game of Thrones, in the last moments of the finale, Sansa seems to win the game. She wins along with Bran, but let’s not get into that one. There’s only one problem: it doesn’t feel satisfying for everyone watching. Sure, you can never please everyone.

Yet it definitely would have been more likely to please fans if this scene had been left into the final cut of the show. It would have turned even the most intense Sansa hater into a supporter, hopefully. Why? Well, it would have shown how much Sansa truly cares about her people and even about those who she doesn’t entirely get along with.

Sansa and Missandei disagree earlier in the episode, yet Sansa still fights to save her. That’s definitely admirable, and even those fans who weren’t satisfied with Sansa’s ending would probably admit that much.

How did season 8 treat Sansa Stark other than her ending?

Season 8 of Game of Thrones, including the finale, made questionable decisions when it came to Sansa. It seemed to have her be grateful for all the trauma she endured throughout the show. It also, while it did give her a crown and a kingdom of her own, gave the responsibility of ruling the rest of Westeros to her brother Bran. Some might view Sansa telling Bran that the North will be independent as Sansa asking Bran to rule the North, rather than truly earning it.

Yet it didn’t have to be like that. Surely there’s no better way to earn the throne of the North than to fight White Walkers to defend it. The show also could have shown Sansa actually ruling the North, which would have been interesting to see for many fans and probably would have improved reactions as well.
