‘Game of Thrones:’ Kit Harington’s Reaction to Jon Snow’s Fate

With the Game of Thrones series finale now less than two weeks away, the anticipation surrounding the narrative end to a nearly decade-long saga couldn’t be any greater. As audiences everywhere wait to see what’s in store for Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, finale speculators take to the internet to share their theories.

From a battle between Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen to Tyrion Lannister winding up on the Iron Throne, nearly every possible turn of events has been explored and defended at great lengths. Will the finale prove one of the many speculators correct, or have the writers penned the perfect conclusion: an epic ending that is utterly surprising, yet inevitable. Fulfilling, yet not melancholic.

Kit Harington – preparing to, at last, leave Jon Snow behind and venture into other projects more disparate from the hero’s journey – sat down with Variety to discuss his time on the show, what he plans to do following his successful run on Game of Thrones, and Jon’s Snow’s narrative conclusion.

Kit Harington talks playing Jon Snow and the character’s journey throughout ‘Game of Thrones’

During his interview with Variety, Kit Harington explained that he is happy to be moving on, and hopes to follow in the footsteps of fellow British actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Ben Whishaw, as he greatly admires both of their careers, for they flawlessly balance major franchise work with smaller, more independent films.

Kit Harington also explained that during the table read for the final season, his emotions got the best of him, and he cried. However, was it just about saying goodbye, or does his character suffer an unfortunate fate?

Being careful to avoid spoiling the ending, Kit Harington told Variety, “the end of Jon’s journey, whatever that may be … I was satisfied with how his story ended.” Satisfied: not an overly enthusiastic choice of words, but not necessarily a disappointing one either. It’s likely that Harington is referencing both his time with the show, and the end of Snow’s narrative arc simultaneously, and thus, looking back on his journey, he feels content with the character development Snow has been lucky to receive.

As a main character on the show, Jon Snow’s storyline exists at the center of fans’ concerns; thus, Kit Harington was lucky enough to play a part that received the writers’ and the media’s attention.

If Harington was satisfied with Jon Snow’s ending, maybe fans will be too. The sentiment felt by the man playing the character should be a reliable source, right?

Kit Harington’s work outside ‘Game of Thrones’

While starring on Game of Thrones, Kit Harington landed the role of Robert Catesby in Gunpowder, which was a TV miniseries that aired back in 2017. The show focused on a British activist and a group of provincial English Catholics who were planning to blow up the House of Lords and kill James I.

While Kit Harington had a leading role in the aforementioned show, he’s been doing a lot of voice work lately. He voiced characters for video games in the past, and he recently provided the voice for Eret in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Sir Gadabout in Zog.

As for projects on the horizon, according to IMDb, there have been no official announcements regarding Kit Harrington’s next on-screen acting role. Let’s hope, for the actor’s sake, that he doesn’t struggle to find another leading role following his long run on GoT.
