Kit Harington and Rose Leslie took their on-screen romance in HBO’s hit fantasy drama, Game of Thrones, and made it into something really swoon-worthy. The pair, who met while working on the set of Game of Thrones in 2012, tied the knot in 2018 and have not slowed down ever since. Here’s a quick look at some of Harington and Leslie’s most romantic moments.
A romance begins
We do not know exactly when things turned romantic between Kit Harington and Rose Leslie, but the sparks definitely started flying during their time on the set of Game of Thrones.
The two, who played Jon Snow and Ygritte, filmed scenes together in Iceland in 2012. According to Elle, Harington later revealed that he fell in love in Iceland, which means their romance pretty much started from the very beginning.
“[I love Iceland] because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” Kit Harington shared in 2016.
Harington added that it was easy to fall for Leslie because he was “already attracted to her.” It also helped that they played love interests on the show, which basically means that when fans were watching their characters get romantic on the show, the same was happening in real life.
Kit Harington reveals his favorite ‘GOT’ scene
Most fans would say Jon and Ygritte’s cave scene was their best. After all, this is when the pair first made love and cemented their relationship.
But for Kit Harington, his favorite scene in the history of the show was actually Ygritte’s death. That might sound a little morbid at first, but it was actually a very sweet compliment.
“I liked her death. I know, it sounds bizarre,” Harington revealed. “I thought she nailed that. And it’s the first time in Thrones that slow motion was used and I think it’s a beautiful, cradling moment as this battle is raging in the background. It was one of those incredible shots.”
Ygritte died in tragic fashion in season 4 of Game of Thrones. Kit Harington’s character would later fall in love with Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen, a relationship that also ended in his lover’s death.
Although Ygritte was not around for long, Harington revealed that she will always be his one true love, regardless of what happened with Daenerys.
“Ygritte is the only woman for Jon,” he stated. “Always. There will be no one else.”
When they finally went public
Although their romance was blossoming behind the scenes, Kit Harington and Rose Leslie kept it out of the public eye for years.
The cat came out of the bag, however, in 2016 when the two were spotted locking lips and holding hands. Later that year, they walked the red carpet together at the Olivier awards.
Once they went public, things moved rather quickly for the couple. The following year the two purchased a home together and seemed destined to tie the knot.
Kit Harington pops the big question
In the fall of 2017, Harington took the relationship to the next level and asked Leslie to marry him. The engagement news leaked on September 26 of that year, and the couple confirmed the exciting news a day later.
The pair made things official by placing the announcement in the weekly edition of the London based newspaper, The Times.
“The engagement is announced between Kit, younger son of David and Deborah Harington of Worcestershire, and Rose, middle daughter of Sebastian and Candy Leslie of Aberdeenshire,” the announcement read.
Kit Harington spoiled ‘Game of Thrones’
With Leslie leaving the series early on, she was not privy to spoilers in the final two seasons of the show. But that all changed in season 7 when Harington accidentally spoiled the ending for her.
In an interview, Leslie hilariously revealed that Kit Harington told her about how one of the dragons dies at the end of season 7 and is immediately turned into a weapon for the White Walkers.
Fortunately, Harington did not repeat history for the show’s final season. Leslie got pretty angry at him for spoiling things the previous year and made sure he did not do the same.
Inside their gorgeous wedding
Kit Harington and Leslie’s wedding is probably the most romantic moment in the history of their relationship. The pair tied the knot in a gorgeous ceremony on June 23, 2018, in the Kirkton of Rayne church, located in Scotland.
The wedding was attended by the couple’s close friends and family, some of whom included Game of Thrones cast members. Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, who played Arya and Sansa Stark, were present in matching dresses.
Although their presence was not confirmed, Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke were in the vicinity at the time of the ceremony. We do not know who else made the wedding, but photos from the event prove that Kit Harington and Rose Leslie thoroughly enjoyed it.
