It was previously confirmed that Dr. Griffin Munro will be leaving the show. His last day was March 22 and some wondered if that means the role will be recast or if the doctor will be killed off. Why did Cohen decide to leave?

Well, some actors are happy with playing the same role for many years. Cohen revealed that he likes to take a different path.

I did three years at the show,” the actor told TV Insider. “It was a great time and I had great fun playing the character, but I’m a guy who gets uncomfortable when he gets comfortable.”

He revealed what his plans are for the future with, “There are a couple of directing projects I’m looking at right now.” He also made clear that his switch isn’t about the writing of the show.

“I’m a guy whose OCD [Obsessive Compulsive Disorder] travels with me,” explained the actor. “I wasn’t bored with the writing or the storyline, but I’m bored if I don’t have an extreme challenge in front of me. My next big challenge is about directing a feature film. I have to embark on that.”

Things will be left open so Cohen can return

The good thing is that fans didn’t have to watch a heartbreaking death. Cohen said that he could return in the future.

“I need to give Griffin a little rest right now,” Cohen said. “I talked to Frank [Valentini, executive producer]. We’re leaving it very open-ended.”

He seems to be really happy about that possibility. “There is no greater compliment to be paid to an actor than to have the possibility of a return,” said Cohen. “The fact that Frank and everybody over there at the network would even consider allowing that is a great thing.”

He is also open to returning to Supernatural

The actor also played young John Winchester who later got possessed by
Archangel Michael on Supernatural from 2008 to 2015. He hasn’t returned since Season 11, but are there any plans for him to in the future?

“I can’t tell you for sure,” answered Cohen. “They may not know yet. But there’s always that opportunity. When it fits into the story, I’ll have time to figure out how to schedule it. Both Supernatural and GH are like a family. If I ever lost everything, I’d be crawling back to both doors asking if I could come back.”

Port Charles might need to get a new doctor with Cohen’s exit, but at least he might return in the future. Fans will have to keep an eye out for the actor’s future projects like his movie, Mama Bear which is expected to be released Sept. 1, 2019.
