When news came out that The Cosby Show actor, Geoffrey Owens was working at Trader Joe’s many people rallied around him including people in the entertainment industry. Other actors revealed that they also had to work odd jobs in between acting gigs. Tyler Perry took things a step further by offering Owens a new television role, but it’s still unclear if it’ll actually happen and the actor revealed why he’s “skeptical.”

The show creator offered the actor a role on The Haves and the Have Nots on Twitter. Perry probably used the social media platform because Geoffrey Owens’ name was trending, but going through that platform might have made it hard for the actor to believe the job offer is real.

That was kind of cool,” Owens told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, that kind of sounded like he was saying, ‘Come work with me.’ I’m so, like, skeptical. Like, really? Are you actually saying come work with me? Because we’ve never worked together before. So, that’s a very, very generous thing for him to say. And we’ll see what happens with that. But, that’s encouraging.”

Owens also revealed that getting an offer from the role after being shamed for bagging groceries is bittersweet and not exactly how he wanted to get back into acting.

“It would be lovely as one of the results of this, some doors open in terms of giving me the opportunity to audition,” Owens continued. “That, I would appreciate — always, as all actors do. I don’t necessarily feel comfortable being given things as a result of this. I mean, I’m not in a position to turn things down but… I don’t expect that kind of thing. I like the idea of, you know, put me in the room with everyone else and see if I’m the right one for the job.”

Since the actor made headlines for working at the grocery store, he has quit his job there partially because people started going in order to see him. So it’s unclear what Owens will do next, but it’s clear he has many supporters in his corner.
