George Clooney Reveals Why He Won’t Be Archie Harrison’s Godfather

The world is celebrating Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new baby boy, Archie Harrison, who was born on May 6. It’s no doubt a joyous occasion for the whole royal family, though fans are already looking forward to another big event coming up: the godparents reveal.

Since Meghan is a former Hollywood actress with several known A-list friends, many people are speculating on which famous celebrity could be chosen as a godparent for Archie Harrison. George Clooney is a big favorite (the actor even shares the same birthday as the royal baby), but he recently said that we should take him out of the running.

So why is George most likely not going to be Archie Harrison’s godfather? Read on below to find out.

George being Archie Harrison’s godfather was a great idea for many fans since he and Meghan are known to be close. According to some sources, it was Harry who introduced Meghan to George and his wife, Amal. The two couples have remained on friendly terms ever since.

In fact, when Meghan moved to London, Amal helped the American actress out by introducing her to Amal’s stylist. Additionally, Amal was even present during Meghan’s baby shower. The public also became more aware of the two couples’ relationship when George stood up for Meghan against negative press a few months ago.

“I think it’s a little unfair,” he said. “I’ve seen it when the press can turn on you for sort of ridiculous reasons and for almost nothing and it seemed… to be a little unjust since she hadn’t done anything except just happen to live her life. She’s a really kind and smart and intelligent young woman and they’re a really wonderful, loving couple.”

George Clooney says he is too busy to be a godfather

Despite the fact that George is close enough to Meghan and Harry to be a godfather to Archie Harrison, he recently shared that he has too much on his plate already. Speaking to Jimmy Kimmel, he said, “That would be a bad idea. I shouldn’t be the godfather. I’m a father of twins; I can barely do that.”

When asked if he would change his mind should Meghan and Harry approach him with the question, George responded: “I’m not going to be the godfather. I promise you that.” He also insisted further that he “should not be anyone’s godfather.”

George revealed that he had even been asked numerous times by random strangers to be the godfather to their children. Not only that, but he had received requests to be strangers’ best man as well.

Who will be the godparents of Archie Harrison?

It’s too soon to tell for sure who will be selected as the actual godparents of Archie Harrison, but fans have no shortage of people who they think could be great options. The first thing to note is that royal family members typically do not choose siblings to be the godparents of their children, so Prince William and Kate Middleton are out of the running.

However, other relatives can be selected, so for Harry and Meghan, some options might include cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Many royal followers believe that Princess Diana’s family will be involved somehow, so Harry might also pick at least one person on his maternal side of the family.

Meghan also has other celebrity friends such as Priyanka Chopra, Serena Williams, and Jessica Mulroney, who could make great godmothers.

The godparents will be announced at the baby’s christening, which should take place in a couple of months.
