Gisele Bündchen is one of the most well-known supermodels in the world. She was once the highest paid supermodel on earth, and she’s married to New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady. But with a demanding modeling career — and constantly being in the spotlight — comes the need to create eating habits that will keep her in the best possible shape. Here’s what Bündchen eats and drinks when she first wakes up each day.

She starts the day with lemon water

Celebrities love their lemon water, and Bündchen is no exception. She kicks off her day with lukewarm lemon water. While some people claim lemon water is liquid magic, there isn’t much science to back up the lemon portion of that water. (According to Women’s Health, there are no studies that can back up the suggested benefits of lemon water.) Actually, you can get basically the same benefits just from drinking regular water. But if you prefer it with lemon, there is no harm done.

Bündchen follows that glass of lukewarm water with a green shake. She told People the shake varies by day and is made with anything she has in her home, including spinach, kale, cucumber, ginger, and other vegetables and spices. She adds an apple, too, to make the shake a bit sweeter.

Her breakfast is loaded with vitamins

Whatever Bündchen decides to eat in the morning will definitely be packed with vitamins. According to Vogue, once Bündchen gets past her lemon water and green shake, she eats a brunch filled with fruits and vegetables. Fresh fruit, eggs, avocado, and coconut butter are staples in her breakfast dish. She’s also a fan of gluten-free bread. The family sticks to a similar diet — even the kids. But she did say they all like to indulge in oatmeal pancakes on weekends. She essentially eats a breakfast and a brunch, with the green juice being a kick start to her day, and a later brunch being her first big meal.

She keeps in mind her own healthy eating rules

Bündchen has certain healthy eating rules that she lives by, and they play a major role in her morning eating habits. She insists on eating a vitamin-filled breakfast each morning and also relying on fruits and vegetables to be a major part of her diet. She also believes that super foods, such as quinoa and kale, play a significant role in overall health. Bündchen only eats red meat once a month, so don’t expect to see steak and eggs on her breakfast plate. Plus, she eats an early dinner to allow her body proper digestion time, which means she starts that breakfast around 6 a.m.

Bündchen’s healthy eating stems from a demanding career and serious mental health concerns

Some may think Bündchen’s healthy lifestyle is a bit over the top. But she has said in the past that serious anxiety issues led her to the lifestyle she lives today. Bündchen admitted that she once ate mostly fatty cheeseburgers and other unhealthy foods. But when she began to have panic attacks and considered suicide, she found that changing her diet helped her manage her anxiety. The healthy lifestyle she leads is a great way to stay physically in shape. But it also keeps her mentally healthy, which is more important than anything else — especially when you have a career, are a parent, and want to be a supportive partner.
