Gloria Estefan Hints at Many ‘Surprises’ in Jennifer Lopez and Shakira’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Gloria Estefan is offering up information — albeit only a little — about Shakira and Jennifer Lopez’s Super Bowl appearance. Ahead, learn what the Grammy Award winner said on Jan. 28, 2020, about the singers’ halftime show performance.

Estefan, 62, co-hosted Entertainment Tonight with Nischelle Turner at Fla.’s Fontainebleau Miami Beach where she hinted at “surprises” from Shakira and J. Lo during their Super Bowl LIV halftime show on Feb. 2, 2020. While Lopez shared details about what fans can expect in the past, Estefan highlighted the unique challenges of the gig.

Gloria Estefan: Expect ‘surprises’ from J. Lo and Shakira

Estefan, a mother of two, remained tightlipped about Lopez and Shakira’s halftime show but did say there’d be “surprises.”

“All the surprises [are] coming for us in the halftime show. I’m excited,” Estefan said before adding a note about strict time constraints.

“They have a very short time to do what they’re gonna do, and to get on and off the field, so whatever you’re gonna see is gonna be action-packed top to bottom,” she explained. “There’s no time to lose, and there is a couple of fantastic performances. J.Lo and Shakira, plus whatever surprises may be there.”

“They’ve got plenty of surprises coming, I can guarantee,” she added.

When pressed on details about the surprises, Estefan didn’t give anything away: “They will kick my butt if I say something. No. I cannot, but it’s gonna be exciting!”

Estefan says ‘very big’ names in Miami will ‘probably make an appearance’

Suggesting Shakira and J. Lo won’t be the only two artists to take the stage during the halftime show, Estefan said those popular in Miami — the location of this year’s Super Bowl — will likely show up.

What about Wyclef Jean or Pitbull? Both have been linked to the halftime show.

“He could be,” Estefan said referring to Pitbull before saying there are others up for the coveted spot. “I know a couple of other people very big here that’ll probably make an appearance,” she added.

When asked by Billboard.com who should join J. Lo and Shakira during their halftime show, responses from Twitter users ranged from Pitbull and Estefan (she says she won’t be performing) to Camila Cabello and Beyoncé.

Gloria Estefan reiterates she won’t perform

Estefan has said she won’t be taking part in Lopez and Shakira’s Super Bowl halftime show on numerous occasions. She repeated as such while co-hosting ET.

“I’ll be there in heart and soul and spirit, and cheering for them every step of the way,” she said.

In a previous interview with the same outlet, Estefan said she refused to perform at the Super Bowl alongside Lopez and Shakira because it’s a “high-stress” situation she’s done twice before.

Estefan headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 1992 then again in 1999. As co-host in Jan. 2020, she offered up additional details about just how much work and pressure there is involved with the halftime show.

“You’ve gotta be on that A-game,” she said before adding, “It’s very high-pressure because if you do great, fantastic, billions of people [are] watching you. If you mess up, billions of people [are] watching you.”
