Miles Finer (Brandon Micheal Hall) and Cara Bloom (Violett Beane) have undeniable chemistry on God Friended Me. For a while, it seemed like they were trying to just work together, but things have heated up between them. Could something still stop them from taking that step?

The Cheat Sheet talked to Brandon Micheal Hall and Violett Beane about their characters’ relationship on God Friended Me at the Paley Center on Feb. 26. This is what they had to say about what kept them apart.

The two characters have chemistry, but it seemed like it would take some time before they get together. That all changed when Miles and Cara kissed and are now they’re trying to figure out where to go from there.

There is a chance that something might tear them apart. Cara is being pressured by her boss to basically scoop Miles by writing about the God account for work. However, Hall and Beane gave a few other reasons why the two took a bit before getting together that might also stop them from dating.

It’ll be hard for Miles to have a relationship after the death of his mom

The death of Miles’ mom has come up multiple times throughout the show. It’s a reason why Miles lost faith in God in the first place and set him on a different path.

Hall told The Cheat Sheet that it could affect his romantic relationships. “He has Cara on the other end and it’s like ‘Well, she’s on the same trail as me so how do I make this connection here?'” the actor asked. “And also how do I express myself after losing one of the most important people in my life, which is my mom? How do you go back to being in a relationship with anyone after that?”

He talked about Miles’ last relationship ending partially because he was so busy with figuring out who is behind the God account, but also his feelings for Cara.

“I think it’s a good thing,” said Hall. “I think what it does is not only does it show the complexities of someone who is not only battling their own life purpose in Miles’ case, but also his own life emotions.”

They don’t want to ruin their friendship the way it is

Violett Beane revealed why it might take a while for Cara and Miles to fully acknowledge their feelings for each other. One reason is how they are working together.

“I think and something I talked to Bryan [Wynbrandt] and Steven [Lilien], the show creators, is that like often times when people are friends they don’t know how to take the next step,” Beane told The Cheat Sheet. “Or they worry if they do it could end their friendship, which is an honest reaction and a scary thought because their lives are so intertwined.”

She went on to acknowledge that Miles and Cara aren’t just friends in a way. They are working together. “It’s the same when people who work together at an office,” she continued. “They don’t wanna take the next step because they still have to see each other so I think it’s partially that and just they’re put on such crazy journeys so to figure it out together is interesting.”

It’s still possible that Cara and Miles will continue exploring a romantic relationship together, but the actors revealed what has kept them apart so far. Could some of those things stop them from dating or something new? Fans will have to wait to find out.
