When Does ‘The Good Place’ Season 4 Return In 2020?
The celebrated comedic series The Good Place is currently on hiatus, as most shares are over the holidays. However, fans are eagerly awaiting the return of the show, which is in its final season. Here’s when Season 4 of The Good Place begins airing in 2020. [Warning: Mild spoilers for Season 4, Episode 9 of The Good Place.]
‘The Good Place’ airs on NBC
In case you somehow missed the boat, The Good Place is a comedy airing on NBC. Or, as Marc Evan Jackson calls it on The Good Place: The Podcast: “An unusual half-hour of American network television.” And trust us, it certainly fits the bill.
The series follows a group of individuals who meet up in the afterlife — or, the so-called “Good Place.” But not everything is as it seems. This is a show that you don’t want to have spoiled for you, so we won’t give anything away (just yet). But if you keep reading, be warned: You’re about to be confused.
Season 4 is the final one of the show
The Good Place was created by Mike Schur, who you may know as Mose (Dwight’s cousin) from The Office. Schur was a writer on that long-running series and then went on to co-create Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine… all of which went on (or are continuing to air) for seven-plus seasons.
But The Good Place is different. Schur revealed in June 2019, after the third season completed its run, that Season 4 would be the last one of the show. He and the writers chose to end The Good Place “on our own schedule,” in order to preserve the integrity of the story. While fans were disappointed, it’s commendable that they made this choice.
The Episode 9 cliffhanger was a doozy
[Spoilers for Season 4, Episode 1] Season 4 of The Good Place began on Sept 26, 2019, with the first chapter of the two-part premiere: “A Girl From Arizona.” It began with Eleanor showing all o[f the new subjects, including a wiped Chidi, around the neighborhood. As the season progressed, we saw her and the team working down to the wire to make the humans of the new experiment Good Place material.
[Spoilers for Season 4, Episode 9] In Episode 9, “The Answer,” we get a much better picture of what Chidi’s life was like, as he struggles with his indecisive nature in order to always know what the “right answer” is. The episode ends with Chidi, now with all of his memories intact, coming to and revealing a mysterious message: “There is no ‘answer.’ But Eleanor is the answer.” We can’t wait to find out what this means.
Here’s when ‘The Good Place’ returns
The Good Place returns on Jan. 9, 2020 with Episode 10, “You’ve Changed, Man.” This seemingly refers to Chidi, one would expect, as re-experiencing his memories appears to have given him new perspective.
The Good Place airs at 8:30 on NBC. Episodes can also be watched the next day on NBC.com, the NBC app, or Hulu, if you have a subscription. There are four episodes remaining of the series.
What can we expect from the final four episodes?
The Good Place Episodes 10-13 (technically 10-14, as the final episode will be a double episode) will air on Jan. 9 “You’ve Changed, Man,” Jan. 16 “Mondays, Am I Right?,” Jan. 23 “Patty,” and Jan. 30 “Whenever You’re Ready.” And so far, we really know nothing about them, other than their titles.
But we can deduce quite a bit from the above image. It looks like they’re back in Janet’s void (or some other entirely blank place), and Eleanor and Michael are unsure of what’s going on. They’re clearing working to figure out how to save the world and humanity at large. We’ll have to see what that entails on Jan. 9, 2020, when the Emmy-nominated series returns.
