‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Ellen Pompeo Doesn’t Think She’ll Ever Leave The Show and Here’s Why
Grey’s Anatomy fans can rejoice because it looks as though Meredith Grey may not ever leave.
Ellen Pompeo loves her job
Since Grey’s Anatomy first premiered on ABC back in 2005, Ellen Pompeo has a terrific run starring as Dr. Meredith Grey.
Pompeo has talked about what she plans on doing once her contract ends in 2020, but the actress just recently revealed why she might end up staying.
During an interview with TV Line, the actress stated, “I keep saying, ‘I’m ready to move on and I want to stop the show before the ratings go down,’ but the ratings never go down! They go down a little bit, but the fact that we are able to hold [our title as ABC’s No. 1 series] is kind of [incredible.] It’s very cool to have these kinds of ratings and be on a hit network show in this [peak TV] landscape.”
Ellen Pompeo also revealed that she has it pretty good for an actor stating not many individuals in her position stay with roles as long as she has.
“It’s [a] pretty nice place to work,” Pompeo said. “I like my situation here. As much as the idea of something new appeals to me… the truth is I have three kids. I don’t really want to travel and leave [them]. I don’t want to be a circus traveler and live in hotels. And the network and studio continue to incentivize me and just make me offers that I can’t refuse.”
The actress signed a two-year contract
Back in September 2018, Ellen Pompeo hinted that her run on Grey’s Anatomy would come to an end once her contract was up.
The actress signed a $20 million deal that would cover her work until the end of Season 16 in 2020.
After 15 seasons so far, Pompeo has become a pivotal figure in the show and her leaving would most likely put an end to Grey’s Anatomy.
Throughout her run on the show, Ellen Pompeo has become one of Hollywood’s highest-paid actresses all thanks to Grey’s Anatomy. She knows that once she leaves, the story will have nowhere else to go and will finally come to an end.
Pompeo has not revealed if she actually plans on leaving once her contract is up but knows her time on the show is limited.
“I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any kind of formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories we can tell,” she revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change.”
We’re not ready to lose Dr. Meredith Grey
Over the years, we have lost many of our favorite Grey’s Anatomy characters and that alone broke our hearts (don’t even get us started on Derek Shepherd).
Losing Dr. Meredith Grey would feel like we are saying goodbye to a family member.
Ellen Pompeo’s departure is still up in the air at this point. Though her time on the show is bound to end, the actress is confident Grey’s Anatomy will continue “touching lives and making a difference.”
