When is the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 15 Finale?

Grey’s Anatomy took a week off last week so that ABC could air the beginning of the NFL draft — but let’s be real, you were all out seeing Avengers: Endgame, weren’t you? Regardless, the Grey Sloan memorial crew will return on Thursday, May 2, 2019, with a new episode. However, the season is winding down. Here’s when it will officially end, and what we know about the show’s future.

A quick catch-up

Here’s what’s happening right now on Grey’s Anatomy: Meredith and Andrew (DeLuca) are doing well, and she’s talked to her kids about their relationship. Meanwhile, Alex and Jo are barely speaking, after the fall-out from her discovery about her past. And Maggie and Jackson are about to move in together, marking an end of an era for the sisters.

Speaking of Amelia, she still has feelings for Owen but is enjoying her time with Link. In the last episode “Head Over High Heels,” she warned Koracick that Owen and Teddy are going to end up together, which will at the very least make him doubt his relationship. As for the rest of the cast, things appear to be going well for Richard and Catherine, as well as for Miranda (Bailey) and Ben.

Here’s what we know about this episode

This week, Episode 23, “What I Did For Love,’ will air. Here’s the description from ABC: “Maggie treats one of Station 19’s own, and Jo learns a hard lesson. Meanwhile, when working with a family seeking asylum, Meredith makes a call that could jeopardize her career.”

As you might be able to tell, this is a crossover episode with Station 19. The good news is that means we’ll likely get at least a little bit of Ben, but the bad news is that it looks like Meredith is in trouble. Oh, and Jo looks like she hasn’t slowed down on her drinking, especially when she says, “I screwed up.”

The second to last episode

We also have a description for the penultimate episode of the season. Titled “Drawn to the Blood,” here’s what we know: “Alex tries desperately to save his patient while he waits for a severely agoraphobic blood donor to arrive from London. Jo reveals to Meredith why she’s been so down.”

The patient in question is likely Alex’s thymoma patient, Gus, who has such a rare blood type that they haven’t been able to operate on him. With everything that’s been going on with Jo, he’s been channeling all of his focus into this patient, so it’s going to be especially devastating if he can’t help him. Fortunately, if anyone can get Jo to open up, it’s Meredith, so let’s hope that’s what’s going on here with those two.

The season finale

The Grey’s Anatomy Season 15 finale airs on May 16, 2019. It’s the 25th episode of the season, titled “Jump Into the Fog.” Sometimes, the season finale is a two-hour episode, but in this case, Station 19, which airs immediately after Grey’s Anatomy, also has its season finale on that date, so it will likely just be a regular-length episode.

Will there be a Season 16 of Grey’s Anatomy?

Grey’s Anatomy hasn’t been officially renewed for Season 16 yet. However, given the extended season order for Season 15 and the high ratings and praise that the episode “Silent All These Years” earned, it’s very likely that ABC isn’t going to cancel the series anytime soon. Hopefully, that means an exciting cliffhanger ending for Season 15.
