‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 15: Will This Be the Season of Meredith and DeLuca?
Season 15 of Grey’s Anatomy will have some new faces and twists. In the season trailer, we get a sense of that by seeing the show’s first gay male surgeon, Dr. Nico Kim (Alex Landi), and Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) talking about her pregnancy. But it ends with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) rolling around in bed together. So will this be the season of Meredith and DeLuca? Here are four things we know.
1. Meredith and DeLuca are seen hooking up in the trailer
The biggest piece of evidence about the possible romance is in the trailer. We see DeLuca addressing Dr. Grey in the hospital and she looks pretty surprised to see him. In the next scene, we see the two kissing in bed. It’s possible that this could be a dream sequence, but it’s also possible that the hookup is very real.
2. There will be more of a focus on Meredith’s personal life
The show will be about love for Meredith in terms of family and romance. “Meredith [is going to] have a new trajectory that is more focused on who she is as a single mother and surgeon,” said ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey according to TV Line. That involves her looking “into a medical condition that is very close to her own family background and history.”
That investigation might have to do with Alzheimer’s since the show started off with her mom having the condition. Dungey added, “Ellen has spoken very loudly about how she doesn’t want all of Meredith’s adventures to be romantic ones.”
3. Showrunner Krista Vernoff confirmed that Meredith will get a new love interest
Romance is definitely in the air. Showrunner Krista Vernoff told TV Line that this season will be the “Season of Love” and that includes Meredith. “The question this season,” she said before adding “is not ‘Will Meredith Grey find love again,’ but ‘With whom will she find love?'”
4. Nick Marsh and Nathan Riggs are no longer possibilities for Meredith
Meredith was previously linked to Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) but the character was no longer part of the show after Season 14. She was then with Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) but the actor isn’t listed to be returning this season. Krista Vernoff’s comments also ruled Nick out.
“We all loved him, but Nick was designed as a one episode guest star,” Vernoff told TV Line “which is the whole reason Scott agreed to come play him!”
It’s still up in the air of where the show is taking Meredith and DeLuca. If they do end up together that will definitely lead to some drama with her half-sister, Maggie Pierce, who used to date him.
