One of the biggest moments of this season is Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) leaving the hospital. That’s because Chambers wanted to leave to do something new.

“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers explained. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”

There was a lot of fan backlash to his last episode because of how Karev left his loved ones behind. Ellen Pompeo posted a message after the episode.

“For me personally for Karev to go back to the beginning…. was the best possible storyline,” read part of her message. “It pays homage to those incredible first years and the incredible cast …that created a foundation so strong that the show is still standing. So let’s not be sad. As our fearless leader DA always says let’s PULL UP and celebrate the actors the writers and the fantastic crew who make this show come to life every week.”

Production was stopped for the season

The production of the season wasn’t complete. However, it had to stop to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

“Out of an abundance of caution, production is postponed on Grey’s Anatomy effective immediately.  We are going home now for at least two weeks and waiting to see how the coronavirus situation evolves,” claimed the statement. “This decision was made to ensure the health and safety of the whole cast and crew and the safety of our loved ones outside of work, and it was made in accordance with Mayor Garcetti’s suggestion that we not gather in groups of more than 50.”

The show and Station 19 announced a truck full of medical supplies and props will be donated to hospitals at the University of Southern California, according ABC 7. That equipment included N95 masks and gowns.

The finale will air on April 9

Production is now shut down and won’t return to film the last four episodes so the finale date has been moved up. Entertainment Tonight reports that the finale called “Put on a Happy Face” will air on April 9.

Fans are reacting to the news already. “Bruh. Grey’s ending early in 2 weeks is a STRUGGLE because 16×21 obviously wasn’t meant to be a SEASON FINALE…what random sh*t are we gonna be stuck waiting on for about FIVE months?! #GreysAnatomy,” one fan tweeted.

It doesn’t help that the latest episodes have been very dramatic. Alex Karev made his exit from the show. There was also a shocking twist that was dropped on fans. Fans will have to wait and see how the season will unexpectedly end.
