Over the years, Grey’s Anatomy has brought us many great love stories. During its 14 years, the show has produced some of the most memorable romances in television history. While there have been some great romantic pairings in the show, there have also been some couples that just didn’t make any sense.
In order to give you a better idea of what we are talking about, let’s take a look at some of the most hated couples in Grey’s Anatomy history. These couples have been disliked for many different reasons. Sometimes, the characters seem to have awkward chemistry with each other and other times, fans decided they really just didn’t like one or both of the characters.
No matter the reason, after airing over 300 episodes, it’s safe to say Grey’s Anatomy has produced some very diverse range of couples throughout the years. Here is a look at some of the worst couples that have ever been on Grey’s Anatomy.
Odd pairings on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
Throughout the years, there have been some couples that made us scratch our heads and ask, “really? Them?” A good example of this was when the creators of the show decided to put Jackson Avery and Maggie Pierce together. It was a very unexpected pairing considering that Jackson’s mom was married to Maggie’s dad, which makes the two doctors step-siblings.
In addition to their bizarre familial connection to each other, the couple also lacked a certain amount of chemistry that is needed to make a believable and entertaining couple. Many people complained that watching Jackson and Maggie’s relationship play out was very boring and underwhelming.
Izzie Stevens and George O’Malley’s relationship was another one that nobody really understood. What made this pairing so odd was the fact that it was completely unexpected for many reasons. First, these two characters had virtually no romantic chemistry with each other. Secondly, George currently had a good thing going with Callie at the time. And lastly, fans seemed to really like the friendship that George and Izzie had. They seemed to have more of a brother-sister relationship with each other. So, when the two had suddenly, and without warning, decided that they loved each other, it was a very confusing and awkward time for Grey’s Anatomy fans.
Unhealthy relationships on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’
If you were trying to give someone an example of what the definition of “toxic relationship” means, but you could only name one couple to perfectly define the phrase, you would probably tell them all about Amelia Shepherd and Owen Hunt. These two were disastrous from the very beginning. Amelia never really acted as if she cared about Owen at all. The two seemed to fight constantly and you just never really felt a genuine love between the two characters. It was almost as if the creators of the show wanted to create one more couple, but all of the other characters at the time were taken, so they decided to just randomly throw these two into a relationship, which led to a trainwreck of a marriage.
Which ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ couple did fans hate the most?
Out of all of the horrible couples that have been on Grey’s Anatomy, the one that fans just really couldn’t stand to see together was probably Addison Shepherd and Mark Sloan. On the show, Mark’s character was known as kind of a sleazy womanizer. He had a long list of ladies that he had dated while he was on the show. He dated two of his best friends sisters. But it was the fact that he also dated that same friend’s wife that really started to anger people.
At the time that Mark and Addison started dating, she was still very much married to his best friend, Derek. Although Derek and Addison were having some relationship problems, Mark was unaware of any rockiness in their relationship at the time, which is what makes hooking up with his best friends wife even worse. Apparently, Derek’s feelings were of no concern to Mark and Addison. That is why from the first time they kissed, fans could not stand to see those to together.
