‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ Will Reportedly Focus On This Main Character
Avengers: Endgame has left Star-Lord on the prowl for Gamora, while the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 introduced the possibility for the well-known Adam Warlock to join the team (with multiple actors rumored to take on the part, including Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron). To explain: Adam Warlock’s history is intimately fused with the soul stone.
Den of Geek recently argued that, through “assorted shenanigans,” Warlock may be able to bring the soul stone back into existence, which could somehow transpire into an event merging the original Gamora with the one currently running around the MCU.
Regardless of the eventual outcome, the script will have to delicately balance multiple elements, as Endgame left these characters with unfinished stories and confusing predicaments. Yet, recent reports indicate that one of the other Guardians — our beloved furry friend — may steal the spotlight.
Will Rocket Raccoon be front and center in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3?’
James Gunn recently revealed the affection he holds for Rocket Raccoon, and why he feels his storyline is not yet complete, deserving of some closure in the upcoming installment. He stated:
…Rocket is me, he really is, even if that sounds narcissistic. Groot is like my dog. I love Groot in a completely different way. I relate to Rocket and I feel compassion for Rocket, but I also feel like his story has not been completed.
He has an arc that started in the first movie, continued into the second and goes through Infinity War and Endgame, and then I was set to really finish that arc in Guardians 3. That was a big loss to me—not being able to finish that story—though I was comforted by the fact that they were still planning to use my script. We Got This Covered
From James Gunn’s comments to We Got This Covered going on to explain that the movie is “expected to focus on Rocket” in a later article, it has become quite obvious that Rocket will play a major role — as opposed to serving in an often subordinate role (that develops across installments) for moments of comic relief or heartfelt tenderness.
James Gunn viewed Rocket Raccoon’s incomplete arc as a loss; thus, now that he’s back on the project — after a bit of a debacle — he has a chance to fulfill on his promise, to give fans the Rocket plotline they deserve. And, considering Gunn relates to the character so strongly, we can expect to hear Bradley Cooper’s altered voice quite a bit in this upcoming movie.
Unfortunately, though Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is one of the most highly anticipated MCU installments, don’t expect to see the movie anytime soon. Rumor has it that the film is now slated for a 2023 release date (despite earlier reports suggesting a 2022 release), as Gunn allegedly wants to finish up on his Suicide Squad-oriented projects before jumping back to Marvel. Thus, you’ll just have to wait (a while) to see how big Rocket’s role will be.
