Gwen Stefani’s New Nickname With Blake Shelton Is Both Sweet and Strange
These days, almost every celebrity couple has a nickname. There’s something so compelling about combining first names and last names to link these lovebirds together.
The celebrity nickname trend brought us such favorites as Brangelina, Kimye, Bennifer, Speidi, TomKat, and so many others. Creating a cute new couple moniker isn’t a guarantee that they’ll stay together. But it is super fun to say for as long as they’re together.
Now the music industry’s sweetest couple has come up with a nickname of their own. The only problem? It’s a little bit hard to pronounce compared to the others.
Gwen Stefani just revealed her new nickname with Blake Shelton
The first interesting thing about Stefani’s big announcement is that most celebrity couples are given a nickname by the media or fans, they don’t just come up with it themselves. But apparently Stefani got sick of waiting for someone to think of a good one, so she took matters into her own hands.
“Alright, so, just so you know, I got a new nickname for me and Blake,” the Voice coach said on her Insta stories. “It’s called ‘Gwake,’ and I’m really excited about it! It’s like Gwen and Blake together, but Gwake. I didn’t make that up, he made that up.”
Fans had a different name for Shelton and Stefani
Before “Gwake” premiered, fans were already calling this musical duo by a different name. Apparently, they’d been using “Shefani” as a combination of the couple’s last names.
The thing about nicknames is you can’t force them. It’s not guaranteed that Gwake will last just like Shefani never took off. Both ideas might be just too strange to catch on.
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani want everyone to know they’re in love
Nickname or not, it’s clear that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are deeply in love and may even be on the verge of getting engaged. Shelton has alluded to an engagement happening “soon” but so far, the couple is happy just being together. Plus, they might be waiting for Gwen Stefani to get an annulment from her ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. She’d need to do that before marrying again in the Catholic church.
Earlier this year, US Weekly reported that Gwen had “began the formal process” to acquire an annulment. “Gwen’s religion has always been extremely important to her, and Blake is completely supportive of this,” a source explained.
Will Shelton and Stefani get engaged soon?
Rumors ignited all over again at the People’s Choice Awards on Nov. 10 when Stefani arrived sporting a massive diamond ring. But she quickly set the record straight.
“It might be a real ring, a real diamond but it’s not a wedding ring. No, no,” she told E! News. “It actually doesn’t fit over the glove on this hand so I put it on this hand. But good, right?
Then she promised she’d shot the news from the rooftops when an engagement did happen. “When I have something to say, I’ll say it,” Stefani promised.
Once these two lovebirds do get married, it might be time to find a better nickname for them. Blen? Gwesh? Blafani? We’ll have to work on it in the meantime.
