Gwyneth Paltrow Honestly Forgot She Was In ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
Gwyneth Paltrow has graced the screen in many Marvel movies, but she seems to have forgotten that she was ever in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Granted, Paltrow has an extensive resume, so remembering every role could be a challenge, but you’d think she would know all the times she’s played Pepper Potts.
Was Gwyneth Paltrow in Spider-Man: Homecoming?
Marvel fans are quite aware that Paltrow made a brief cameo as Pepper Potts at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. That appearance seemed to have escaped Patrow’s memory, perhaps because she played a larger role in the Iron Man movies, as well The Avengers, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
‘We weren’t in Spider-Man’
During the cooking show, things were light and breezy between Paltrow and Favreau, as she asked about the purpose of his Netflix series.
Paltrow asked: “What is this TV Show for?,” to which Favreau responded, “We don’t really know.”
He continued, sharing that they started filming scenes for the series while he and Paltrow were filming Spider-Man: Homecoming in Atlanta, something that was completely lost on the actress.
“Spider-Man?,” she asked, looking confused.
Favreau clued her in, noting, “Yeah, we were in Spider-Man‘ together… remember, we were on Spider-Man?”
It appeared that wasn’t enough to jog her memory, as Paltrow argued, “We weren’t in Spider-Man.”
Favreau noted, “Yes, we were. You were in Spider-Man” and she pointed out she was in Avengers, but not Spider-Man.
The director had to give her some more details to convince her, saying, “No, you were in Spider-Man also. Remember Spider-Man at the end… Tom Holland’s there and you’re going to walk out and do a press conference? And I give you the ring. That was Spider-Man.”
The realization finally clicked, as Paltrow noted, “Oh, yes. That was Spider-Man? Oh my God!”
Gwyneth Paltrow almost wasn’t Pepper Potts
Gwyneth Paltrow seems like the perfect Pepper Potts, but the role almost went to another actress — Rachel McAdams, who played Regina George in Mean Girls and Allie in The Notebook. McAdams was rumored to have been Favreau’s top choice for Pepper, but she turned down the part to star in State of Play and The Time Traveler’s Wife.
McAdams did eventually join the MCU, playing Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange.
About The Chef Show
Favreau and chef Roy Choi teamed up for the cooking show after working together on the 2014 movie Chef.
Favreau shared in a statement: “During the production of Chef, I developed a much deeper understanding of the ways in which we express our emotions, share our cultures and seek meaningful connections through the act of cooking and eating. I am so nostalgic about that time and those experiences — this series gives me the perfect opportunity to get back in the kitchen and create some new memories.”
