The film premiered in 1998 and became such a hit Disney Channel released three follow-ups to the original: Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge in 2001, Halloweentown High in 2004, and Return to Halloweentown in 2006. Brown played Marnie in all the sequels except the last when for some reason Disney made the decision to recast her.

Even though the original premiered 21 years ago, Brown still goes all out for Halloween. She’s attended the Spirit of Halloweentown festival — a month-long event held in St. Helens, Ore., where the original film was shot — and she runs an Etsy shop that sells Halloweentown inspired items. Brown on being Marnie for Halloween: It ‘was a blast’

In a 2015 interview with MTV News, Brown revealed she dressed up as Marnie for Halloween after getting the idea from her on-screen grandmother.

“There was one year that I gave out candy in my Marnie costume, which was a blast,” she said before explaining how trick-or-treaters reacted. “The kids would kind of look at me for a second. You could tell on their face[s] that they’d be like, “She looks familiar” and then it would hit them.”

“It was actually Debbie Reynolds who gave me that idea! She did it one year, if I remember correctly, in her Aggie [Cromwell] cloak or something. So I did it one year, and it was just so much fun,” Brown added.

Halloweentown defined the actress’s younger years — she starred in the films from 13 to 20 — which isn’t lost on Brown.  “It shaped my childhood in a huge way,” she said. “To watch it grow over the years and then be approached for the other movies was a huge thrill and an honor,” she added.

Not only did the movie consume her teen years but the experience introduced her to someone who she’d date as an adult.

That’s right, she’s dating Daniel Kountz, her co-star in  Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge. — Brown starred in the films from the age of 13 to 20 — and said in the interview it “shaped her childhood.”

Kountz has made appearances on Brown’s social media with the confirming their relationship with a picture of them kissing on International Kissing Day, in July of 2018, according to Seventeen.

Here’s hoping the couple passes out candy as their Halloweentown characters tonight.
