Harry Styles Can Now Read You To Sleep With This Meditation App

Harry Styles has a great voice; he wouldn’t have been in a highly successful boy band and created two well-loved solo albums if he didn’t. But he’s venturing into new territory with story narration, and fans don’t know how to deal with it.

Harry Styles has a new story narration on the Calm app

On July 8, the Calm app released new audio, which was Styles narrating a 35-minute story called “Dream With Harry.” The app is meant to relieve stress in its users, whether to help them sleep or decrease anxiety. And for Styles, a narration surrounding sleep was important.

Sleep and meditation are a huge part of my routine, whether I’m at home, in the studio, or out on the road,” Styles shared in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly. “Rest and recovery is as important as doing the work. Finding a balance has been endlessly beneficial to both my physical and mental health. It’s changed my life. I’m so happy to be collaborating with Calm at a time when the world needs all the healing it can get. Treat people with kindness.”

The app’s social media teased the announcement on their Twitter, and he isn’t the first celebrity they have narrating on the app. Laura Dern, Matthew McConaughey, and LeBron James are among others with audio on Calm. It’s free to download, but there is a subscription you need. They offer a 7-day free trial for new users.

Fans love this new narration from Styles

As you can imagine, having such a long audio narration from Styles in the midst of this anxiety-ridden pandemic was a great gift for fans. Brittany Broski, aka Kombucha Girl, is one of those massive fans and she tweeted about how much she was affected by the new Calm story.

“I can’t verbalize how much he means to me,” she wrote on July 8. “I literally could never ever even attempt to explain how much he’s impacted me and shaped who I am as a person Harry Styles is simply a ray of human sunshine I can never thank him enough for what he’s done 4 me.”

And of course, fans are sharing mood boards and their feelings. And the impact runs deep.

Michael Acton Smith, the co-founder of Calm, shared in a LinkedIn post that this type of story was new for the app. It mixes Styles’ voice, different sounds, and music, and was made possible by his fans.

Styles has talked about his mental health before and he goes to therapy

Styles has become more open about his anxiety and mental health over the past couple of years. He told Rolling Stone last August for his cover story that he battled a lot of anxiety while touring with One Direction.

“I was constantly scared I might sing a wrong note. I felt so much weight in terms of not getting things wrong,” Styles said.

And in 2014, he wrote that he “suffered some pretty serious confidence issues” while going on stage as well.

“At that point, any natural confidence I had was being taken over by nerves because back then I had no idea how to channel and control my anxiety,” he wrote.

In his feature story with The Guardian this past December, Styles did share how he goes to therapy now. Even though he didn’t feel like he needed it before.

“I go. Not every week. But whenever I feel I need it,” he said. “For a really long time I didn’t try therapy, because I wanted to be the guy who could say: ‘I don’t need it.’ Now I realise I was only getting in my own way… It helps.”
