Harry Styles Was Adorably Awkward When Asked This Question About Kendall Jenner

Which of the songs on Harry Styles’ new album, Fine Line, are about a breakup? During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, the talk show host tried to get to the bottom of this burning question, without much success. She also asked him about his relationship with Kendall Jenner and, while not too revealing, it was full-on adorable.

Styles dodged the Kendall Jenner questions

DeGeneres asked Styles about hosting SNL and filling in as host of The Late Late Show With James Corden when his rumored ex-girlfriend Kendall Jenner was a guest.

DeGeneres asked, “You and Kendall are really good friends now, right?” and he shared, “Yeah, we’ve been friends for a while now, yeah, for like several years.”

You didn’t think the singer was going to give any inside scoop, did you? Despite that, DeGeneres attempted to dig a bit deeper, noting, “It’s sweet that you all are still really good friends.”

Styles answered, “Yeah. Yeah, I think so. Right?… OK!”

DeGeneres then tried another tactic, stating, “Some people are saying that this album is all about a breakup from someone.”

“OK,” Styles responded, revealing nothing.

DeGeneres pressed, “So the question is, is it?”

Styles will never tell

During Jenner’s appearance on Corden, a similar question about his debut album came up during a game of Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts when the model asked which of the songs on his album are about her? Jenner said, “I’m dying to know this.”

Styles either had to answer the question or eat cod sperm and teased, as he gave the food a poke, “So I’d say track…,” stopped to consider an answer, then took a bite.

Styles revealed the album covers the “saddest times” of his life

Styles did admit there is personal material in his songs, but don’t think for a minute he was going to reveal who exactly any of the tunes are specifically about.

He had the perfect answer, of course, sharing with DeGeneres: “I think I definitely write from personal experience. I think a lot of people do. I think if you want your songs to be honest and connect with people, it’s usually from writing honestly. So yeah, it’s definitely about, I guess, what I was going through at the time.”

He continued: “And that’s both good and bad. I think the thing with this album for me is while I was making it, the times when I was kind of sad were probably like some of the saddest times in my life, but then at the same time, the times when I was happy were some of the best times I’ve ever had in my life. It’s both, it’s a fine line.”

Styles did share how he spent some time in Japan writing the album, all by himself. “It was fun” and a new adventure, he admitted, as he said he realized “I’d never really traveled on my own,” as he was either with family or touring with One Direction.

DeGeneres also asked if he was scared about leaving One Direction and trying things as a solo artist. “I’m very happy,” he shared, adding, “I think coming out of that I kind of tried to remind myself before getting any expectations… not like assuming anything.” He said he feels “very lucky” about his fans.
