Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani come from different backgrounds
Shelton grew up with a country lifestyle in Oklahoma. He made a career out of country music, and, for a time, was married to another country star, Miranda Lambert. Stefani, on the other hand, grew up as a California girl, outside Anaheim. She has always lived more of a city lifestyle and is notorious for her red lipstick and glam-rock outfits. She built a career as the frontwoman of No Doubt, and then married another rock star, Bush frontman, Gavin Rossdale.
Both of their marriages ended around the same time, and Shelton and Stefani bonded over their mutual heartbreak. So how do they make it work despite their differences?
Blake Shelton hasn’t forgotten his friends
There’s no one better to ask about the changes in Shelton than one of his best friends. Trace Adkins, who shares a similar country-star career, has been friends with Shelton for years, even before they collaborated on the 2009 song, “Hillbilly Bone.” Recently, Adkins joined Shelton for the Friends and Heroes Tour, during which Adkins said they were “having a ball.”
At the premiere of Adkin’s newest project, the movie, Bennett’s War, both Shelton and Stefani showed up to support their friend. Adkins told US Weekly and other reporters at the premiere, “That’s what we do. We show up for each other and support each other in whatever we’re doing. We’ve toured together the last couple of years, and we’re going to do it again next year. So, it’s a real friendship. It’s not something just put on for the cameras.”
Has Blake Shelton changed since he began dating Gwen Stefani?
When asked about how Shelton’s relationship has impacted his personality, Adkins said that Shelton “really hasn’t changed.” Adkins continued, “Somebody asked me today, ‘Of all the country artists that you know, which one do you think is really a country guy? The most authentic?’ And you know, it’s Blake,” Adkins said. “He lives the life. He really does. [Shelton] does well and conducts himself well out here in civilization, but he’d rather be in Oklahoma … in the middle of the woods.”
Shelton’s home is in Oklahoma, and according to reports, Stefani is just as comfortable out there as he is. Although, he did make some changes so that she’d be more comfortable. During an interview on The Ellen Show, Stefani shared that her boyfriend poured concrete around the house because he knows that she doesn’t really like dirt, and this way she wouldn’t have to walk in the dirt.
“Blake loves getting dirty with the boys,” a source close to Stefani told US Weekly. “They’re always playing basketball or running around. They love it there because it’s just the five of them out on the land, hunting or hiking.”
Another source confirmed to US Weekly that Stefani loves the country lifestyle. “Take away her celebrity status, and she shares the same traditional Midwestern values as Blake.”
It seems that Shelton and Stefani aren’t as opposite as they first appear. Maybe this relationship is a perfect match after all.
