Has Kendall Jenner Considered Quitting “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” To Focus On Her Modeling Career?
Being a member of Hollywood’s most famous family definitely has its perks, but sometimes, it can really hinder jobs taking you seriously.
That is exactly how Kendall Jenner feels.
Though Keeping Up With The Kardashians was able to make Kendall Jenner a household name, the supermodel didn’t want to be associated with her famous family at one point.
While speaking with Vogue Australia, Jenner opened up about her modeling career and how she disassociating herself from the family name to further her modeling career.
Kendall didn’t use her last name when she started modeling
At only 12-years-old, Kendall Jenner was thrown into the world of reality television when her family landed their own E! series Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2007.
Though the show was mainly focused around her older sisters in the beginning, Kendall and her little sister Kylie began appearing in episodes a lot more and soon became household names.
By the time Kendall was 14, she announced on the show that she wanted to pursue a career in modeling.
Once Jenner starting getting casting calls, her family’s show was at its prime.
Since the show became so popular, Kendall Jenner knew that if she went into casting calls using her full name, companies wouldn’t take her seriously.
The supermodel revealed to Vogue Australia that she referred to herself simply as “K” or “Kendall” in order to “distinguish herself from her famous family.”
Many might think that Kendall opted out of using her last name seemly because she was embarrassed, but as it turns out, the model wanted to make a name for herself without falling in the shadow of her famous family.
“But I’ve always been the person to prove [critics] wrong, even when I was younger,” Jenner admitted. “I’ve always been a hard worker: that’s in my blood. My parents raised me and my little sister to be that way and the rest of my sisters, too. A lot of people assumed that because I came from a ‘name’ that it was a lot easier for me to get to where I got, but actually, it’s the complete opposite.”
Did she want to quit KUWTK?
Though Keeping Up With The Kardashians definitely put Kendall Jenner on the radar to jumpstart her modeling career, she has most likely considered leaving the family business behind.
The show really hindered Jenner’s career in the beginning and once she started getting casting calls, the supermodel started to appear on the show less and less.
Even though KUWTK worked against Kendall at the beginning of her career, she was still able to easily transition from reality star to a full-fledged supermodel.
Photographer Russell James confirms that Kendall’s endurance and hard work were what got her to be the world’s highest-paid model of today, not her family’s fame.
“100% of Kendall Jenner’s success is actually 100% Kendall because she’s so damn motivated. Genetically, she had everything to be a great model, but I told her it was going to be so hard to do because she already had a brand,” he told the magazine. “In some ways, the industry was especially harsh on her, because it’s harder to rebrand than it is to brand, so she had an incredible challenge.”
