Has Prince Harry Always Been Jealous That Prince William Will Be King?

As sixth in line to the throne, Prince Harry has always known that his older brother Prince William would become the King of the United Kingdom someday. Yet the idea that William would inherit the crown and he probably would not has reportedly created some competition between him and his younger brother. With William’s future pre-determined, inside sources say Prince Harry has always been jealous that Prince William will sit on the throne.

A look at Prince Harry’s jealousy

Harry’s relationship with William took a major hit after he started dating Meghan Markle. Insiders claim that the brothers started fighting after William advised Harry to take things slowly with the American actress.

While their relationship has definitely seen better days, the rift between the brothers may have started long before Prince Harry met Meghan.

According to Express, inside sources claim that Prince William’s future as King automatically set Harry up for failure. With his brother set to wear the crown, Harry’s future was much less certain. This created a distance between the brothers and is something Harry alluded to in a recent interview.

As fans will recall, Prince Harry admitted that he and William are on different paths in the documentary, Harry and Meghan: An African Journey. He did not elaborate on what he meant, but the comment likely pertains to William’s future at the head of the monarchy.

“William is the future King,” the source dished. “There is going to be some competitiveness between him and Harry. That already puts a rock in the relationship.”

Prince Harry and Prince William grow apart

William has always known what is expected of him and that he would someday inherit the crown. But Harry’s future has never been written in stone.

Harry could have picked any career in his younger days but settled on joining the Army. Once his duty in the military was over, Harry moved on to a more traditional role in the royal family, working with various charitable organizations around the world.

And while Prince Harry and Prince William have been close at times, they always knew their paths would diverge at some point in their lives. And it all started when William and Kate got married and started having children of their own.

The rift between the brothers grew even more when Harry tied the knot with Meghan. Now that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a little one of their own, their lives are seemingly headed in a completely different direction than William and Kate.

Are Harry and William still feuding?

In the documentary, Prince Harry confirmed that he and Prince William have experienced ups and downs over the past few years. He also admitted that they are on different paths in life, though he did not elaborate on where his journey is headed.

Inside sources claim that William was very concerned by Harry’s admission, which raised speculation that he and Meghan might be leaving the royal family for good.

That said, other insiders say that Prince Harry and Prince William are on better terms now and that their relationship is very “chill.”

That does not mean the brothers will be teaming up anytime soon, but they now realize that their duties and responsibilities are much different. Moving forward, the insider believes that they will have to learn how to interact without fighting.

“But there is a divide between the four of them. It’s hard for people to digest, because everyone wants them to be such a unit,” the source shared. “They’re going to have to try to figure out how to be civil, but they are on different paths now.”

Prince Harry reacts to his position in the line of succession

While we wait to see how things unfold, there was a time when Harry was much higher up in the royal family’s line of succession.

When he was a young boy, Prince Harry was third in line to the throne, following his father, Prince Charles, and older brother. That has changed, however, now that Prince William and Kate have three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Following the birth of Charlotte, Harry was asked what he thought about constantly being bumped down the line. Although William’s children make it unlikely that Harry will ever sit on the throne, his response to the situation was actually pretty respectable.

“The reason I am now fifth is because of my nephew and niece and I could never wish them away. They’re the most amazing things ever,” Prince Harry stated.

Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie Harrison, is even further down the line than his father. Archie is the seventh heir to the throne and would only take over if his father inherited the crown.

Given his standing, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided against giving Archie a royal title when he was born, insisting that he live as normal of a life as possible.
