Although Captain Sandy Yawn and chief stew Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck Mediterranean can pull off an amazing charter for guests, their working relationship hasn’t always been as smooth.
From the very beginning, the chief stew worried Yawn was going to micromanage her. At the same time, during the season, Yawn wasn’t thrilled with some of the drama that followed Ferrier. When Ferrier butted heads with her second stew during season two, Yawn worried it would hamper the team’s ability to do a stellar job.
While Yawn and Ferrier moved forward and worked together again during the next season, they clashed even further. Now that they are matched up again is their working relationship going to get worse? Or did they work through their differences?
Last year it was all about Conrad
Many of the issues that created tension between Ferrier and Yawn stemmed from Ferrier’s romantic relationship with bosun Conrad Empson. The two often seemed distracted at work because they would end up taking several breaks together, which compromised the rest of the crew.
Other crew members seemed slightly annoyed when Empson and Ferrier snuck away for another cigarette break. But Yawn finally had enough when the two were off the yacht with the charter guests for hours. Ferrier was given permission to leave the yacht with the guests for one hour, however, she lost track of time and the longer she was gone, the more enraged Yawn became.
By the time Ferrier returned to the yacht, Yawn was at her boiling point. She was ready to fire Ferrier but gave herself time to cool down and speak with Ferrier instead. While Yawn did not fire Ferrier, she made it perfectly clear she wasn’t happy that Ferrier was off the yacht for the extended period of time.
They both finally apologized
Both women had time to reflect on the instance and ultimately apologized. “So Sandy and I have actually sat down, had a chat, we hashed out our issues,” Ferrier said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen Bravo’s The Daily Dish reports. “We both apologized, so we’re in a really good place now. So that’s a good thing.”
Yawn too confirmed she and Ferrier are in a better place. “Watching the show back, I realize I’m really hard on @hannahferrier_. I do demand excellence and communication,” she tweeted. “Off camera, I’ve had conversations with her and apologized. We have moved passed everything, and we’re in a better place now.”
How do they feel about working together today?
Bravo took the crew to task about what it was going to be like working together again. Yawn and Ferrier confirmed they are closer now than ever. “So Sandy and I spent a bit of time together after the charter season,” Ferrier says. “And we worked through our differences and realized you know we’re probably a bit more similar than we think. I’m really excited to work with her this season and hopefully, it will go a lot smoother than last.”
Yawn too looked forward to being on charter with Ferrier. “I’m excited to work with Hannah again because it takes time to garner respect from your crew,” Yawn remarked. “As a captain, as a leader, I have to gain their respect. I think I have garnered Hannah’s respect. And this season will show that.”
Ferrier adds she and Yawn are at the stage in their working relationship where they have a better understanding of what each other needs. “So I have a better understanding of what she needs from me and I have a better understanding of what I need from her.”
Below Deck Mediterranean viewers can watch this new working relationship unfold starting Monday, June 3 at 9/8c.
