Have the Kardashians Completely Lost Touch With Reality?

The Kardashian family‘s empire is one of the biggest around, with makeup lines, clothing brands, exclusive apps, lifestyle websites, and so much more. Fans spend thousands of dollars in support of their favorite sisters, keeping them in a much higher tax bracket than many of their loyal followers.

Throughout all of the businesses and apps, the show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians has continued to broadcast on E! even though the show debuted way back in 2007. Some fans have started to wonder if the show is still relevant, and whether or not the family is able to relate to their fanbase at all these days.

Keep reading to discover the origins of the Kardashian-Jenner family and the criticisms that have been leveled against them in the days of late.

The Kardashians started out rather humbly

The Kardashian family grew up in sunny California. Kris Jenner, then Kris Kardashian, was married to the well-known lawyer Robert Kardashian and together, they had four children — Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, and Robert Jr. While the family was definitely privileged, living in an exclusive neighborhood and enjoying amenities such as a giant swimming pool, onsite tennis court, and a housekeeper, they weren’t anywhere near the level of wealth that they have now.

By the time Robert and Kris Kardashian divorced and Kris Jenner was married to Olympian Caitlyn Jenner (then known as Bruce Jenner) the family was starting to rise in notoriety. That notoriety increased after the release of Kim Kardashian’s sex tape. Kris Jenner was constantly thinking of ways to market her lively, on-the-go family, and later suggested that her business decisions were “very intentional” and that she viewed their careers as pieces on a chessboard.

When they landed the deal with E! for Keeping Up With the Kardashians, many viewers were introduced to them as a pretty normal family — albeit ones who lived an exclusive lifestyle in California.

The Kardashians have achieved major fame and fortune

In the early years of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the family carried designer bags and went to fancy launch parties, but they weren’t billionaires, jetting around the world on a whim. Now that the family has skyrocketed to levels of fame that they probably never dreamed of, they live lives that their followers probably can’t relate to at all.

While older episodes of the show would often center around family arguments, the disagreements that the sisters have these days have gotten to a point where it almost seems like a parody.

Have the Kardashians forgotten how to relate to people?

In a recent Reddit discussion, fans talked about a recent episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians where the central storyline featured Kim Kardashian getting angry with her older sister Kourtney Kardashian for “stealing her style” and intentionally copying her looks.

The original poster said that the ridiculous argument is cringeworthy and that the older episodes had so much more “life and entertainment.”

Many other Reddit users chimed in, agreeing with the original poster. One viewer said that the family has been on TV for so long that they have completely “lost touch with reality,” and another stated that the show has gone drastically downhill ever since Kim Kardashian’s robbery several seasons ago.

Still, a couple of commenters defended the family by saying that the argument between the sisters is probably just an accurate reflection of where the family is right now and the type of things that they argue about. They could possibly be playing it up for the cameras though – just like they have probably been doing from the very beginning.
