‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’: Mama June Indicted By Grand Jury On Drug Charges

It’s been a rocky road for June Shannon, aka Mama June, of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo fame. The reality star has been through a wild ride of ups and downs, recently culminating in an indictment by a grand jury.

Mama June faced down charges of felony drug possession stemming from an event earlier this year. Shannon’s family notably staged an intervention for Mama June earlier this year, prior to her drug charges. Here’s what went down.

To say the least, it has not been an easy time for June Shannon’s family. During the Mama June: From Not to Hot Season 3 finale, her family staged an intervention. The reality star had been struggling with drug abuse, and her family was concerned for her well-being.

At the time of the intervention, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon told Mama June, “I’m concerned about you. We care about you. Alana cares about you, Jessica cares about you, Doe Doe cares about you and it’s like everybody’s trying to get you back healthy and you have tunnel vision and the only person you see is Geno.”

The family struggled to get Mama June to see their side. Finally, she agreed to attend an inpatient program. Only 12 hours after, Mama June checked herself out, and Geno picked her up.

Two days later, in Alabama, the couple was arrested on possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia when Mama June was found with crack cocaine and a crack pipe on her person.

“As soon as Geno got Mama from the treatment center, I knew it was over from there. Mama just got charged with possession of crack cocaine, which is a felony,” said Pumpkin.

A history with bad boyfriends

Unfortunately for the Shannon family, this is not Mama June’s first time dating a man who’s a bad influence. While Geno Doak may have enabled Mama June’s drug habits, she previously dated a man with an incredibly nefarious past.

In fact, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo was canceled after four seasons due to Mama June’s boyfriend. It was revealed that Mark McDaniel, the boyfriend in question, had served ten years in prison for molesting one of June’s children.

What’s worse, after he served his term, June reunited with him — in the presence of one of her children. Her actions and McDaniel’s sordid history combined prompted TLC to cancel the show.

The Blast has obtained court documents verifying that Mama June has been indicted by a grand jury on her felony charges.

The documents read, “The Grand Jury of [Macon County] charges that before the finding of this Indictment June Shannon, alias June E. Shannon, alias, whose true name is otherwise unknown to the Grand Jury, did unlawfully possess a controlled substance, to-wit: Cocaine.”

Geno and June could be facing years in prison. Meanwhile, Mama June’s daughter Alanah Thompson, also known as Honey Boo Boo, is living with her sister, Pumpkin.

During June’s intervention earlier this year, Thompson told her, “Mama, I would love to come home and stay with you — tell you about my day, but I can’t do that because I’m scared.”
