Here’s How Prince William and Kate Middleton Try to Keep Their Children’s Lives Normal

Surely, being a member of the royal family is anything but normal. Nevertheless, Prince William and Kate Middleton have insisted since Day 1 on giving their children some sense of “normalcy” despite growing up as part of the British monarchy. And to their credit, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appear to be successful in their attempts to give their young ones some everyday luxuries young royals of the past may not have enjoyed.

Of course, Will and Kate have Diana to thank

Long before Prince William was raising his children in a more modern manner, his mother, Princess Diana, was doing the same for him. Both William and his brother, Prince Harry, have admitted their late mother broke royal protocol in raising them. One of her former butlers even said Diana started a Saturday night ritual of taking her sons to McDonald’s and watching Blind Date with them.

Diana’s attempts clearly paid off, as both William and Harry have grown to embrace certain tasks outside of royal family life like doing their own grocery shopping. And now that William has three children of his own, he and the Duchess of Cambridge are following Diana’s lead.

How exactly do Will and Kate accomplish this?

A royal insider tells Us Weekly the Cambridges make a point of taking their two oldest kids to school every day instead of having a staff member do it. Prince George is learning the run-of-the-mill school curriculum, like math and geography, and is simply known as “George Cambridge” to his schoolmates.

The family also runs their own errands together and tries to escape the hustle and bustle of Kensington Palace to their country home Anmer Hall on school holidays so the whole family can have some privacy. And as for food restrictions the royal family has followed for years, Will and Kate let their children slide on a few snacks and sweets.

All in all, it appears the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are giving their children some great chances to enjoy the perks of being kids — even though they’re part of one of the most famous families in the world.
