It was announced last month that Disney would be pulling its movies from Netflix in order to start its own streaming service, but at the time, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that it was still being discussed what would happen to Star Wars and Marvel. In an investor meting today, Iger officially announced that these two properties are leaving Netflix along with everything else, according to Deadline.
Luckily, this is a bit down the road, and you’ll still be able to enjoy Marvel and Star Wars content on Netflix for a while. Everything that’s currently on Netflix from Disney is staying until the end of 2019. In addition, all of Disney’s movies that are scheduled to be released theatrically in 2018 will be available until the end of 2019. But nothing released in theaters in 2019 will come to Netflix, and by the end of that year, the entire catalogue will be gone. Those movies will then be exclusively available on Disney’s own streaming service, which is planned for a late 2019 launch.
This means that all of the following Disney movies will be available on Netflix until the end of 2019: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Cars 3, Thor: Ragnarok, Coco, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Black Panther, A Wrinkle in Time, Avengers: Infinity War, the untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie, The Incredibles 2, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2, Mulan, and Mary Poppins Returns.
But Netflix will be missing out on Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, Star Wars: Episode IX, The Lion King, Aladdin, and more upcoming releases.
Disney’s relationship with Netflix ended up being quite short. Netflix became the exclusive home to Disney’s new releases in September 2016, and during that time, a number of huge films have ended up on the streaming service including Rogue One, Finding Dory, Captain America: Civil War, and Beauty and the Beast. But that deal only lasts until 2019, and Disney has already decided not to renew it and to instead launch a competing streaming service that will feature all of the studio’s movies in one place. It’s not currently known what the price of this service will be.
