Here’s Proof That Kate Middleton Has More Style Influence Than Meghan Markle

Ever since Meghan Markle was introduced as Prince Harry’s girlfriend, her style been at the center of attention. And the second they walked down the aisle, she was crowned a royal fashion icon. The Duchess of Sussex has been breaking barriers (and sometimes rules) with each item of clothing she wears, all the while inspiring her fans to make similar fashion choices.

You’d think Markle would be deemed the No. 1 style influencer in the royal family at this point. But as it turns out, Kate Middleton holds the title of having the most popular style.

It’s been reported that eBay’s annual U.K. Retail Report declares Middleton the winner. She apparently has the most influence over royal fans’ shopping habits — especially with her most fashionable pregnancy styles.

According to InStyle, “When [Middleton] was expecting Prince Louis, she reportedly generated more online searches on eBay than any of the other royals in the past year — including Meghan Markle and Prince Harry during their enormous royal wedding.”

Middleton never fails to kill the fashion game, so we aren’t exactly surprised fans of the royal family want to dress like her. Rob Hattrell,  U.K. vice president of eBay, explained how both Middleton and Markle have driven sales in 2018:

While Meghan was clearly the focus of the fashion pages this year, Kate’s distinctive style has long been a hit with shoppers on eBay since her wedding in 2011. We always see an uptick in searches around landmark royal events and 2018 was a bumper year for small businesses on eBay, with both the birth of Prince Louis and Meghan and Harry’s wedding driving purchases across the nation.

Both Middleton’s and Markle’s most inspirational fashion moments unsurprisingly came from their biggest days in 2018. Markle inspired the most eBay searches with her Givenchy wedding dress, but Middleton’s most popular moment was after giving birth to Prince Louis. The red Jenny Packham dress she wore reportedly more than doubled the searches for “Jenny Packham” online. Additionally, searches for “tailored maternity coats” more than tripled in November 2017 during Middleton’s pregnancy.

Middleton may have won the title of having the most inspirational style, but to be fair, she’s had years to perfect her royal fashion. Markle is newer to the royal fashion game, and so far, she’s already been able to put her own stamp on everything she wears.

Markle definitely classifies as a “risk taker” when it comes to her royal fashion game. This was proven when she and Harry attended a performance of Hamilton, during which she wore a now-iconic Judith & Charles tuxedo dress that exposed her bare legs.

While many labeled this move as scandalous, Middleton has been one to show some leg from time to time. Queen Elizabeth enforces that royal ladies always wear pantyhose, but Middleton may have skipped out on this rule on a few occasions. It’s possible that her pantyhose were just very nude, but nevertheless, she seems to have been subtly pushing boundaries before Markle.
