Here’s When Season 6 of ‘Grace and Frankie’ Premieres on Netflix
Netflix has fans in the habit of marking special dates on their calendars when it comes to season premieres, and now it’s time to make a note for Grace and Frankie. A little bit before season five aired, Netflix renewed the popular comedy for another round, giving fans something to look forward to. After dropping breadcrumbs that the show would return in January 2020, the streamer shared the official premiere date for the series which stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
When exactly will ‘Grace and Frankie’ return?
Reserve a spot on your couch and calendar to binge-watch the series beginning on Jan. 15. On Tuesday, Netflix announced the date and it’s been confirmed that all the core cast members will be returning. Who else is back? Ernie Hudson will be reprising his role as Jacob, Frankie’s beau who moved to New Mexico.
During an appearance at PaleyFest in March, showrunner Marta Kauffman talked about Hudson’s character and what he brings to the show—and to Frankie. “The electricity between them was so vibrant. We will be seeing him in season 6.” There will also be some fresh characters on the show.
A new cast member is joining season six of ‘Grace and Frankie’
The cast list is already stacked with some of Hollywood’s most well-known talents, and there have been rumors circulating for months that a certain Southern belle could be making an appearance. But it doesn’t seem like that will happen as Fonda has squashed the idea that Dolly Parton would be a sure thing for a guest spot. She shared that Parton would love to do the show, but her schedule is too hectic. Don’t count it out though.
However, viewers will see another familiar face in season six: Mary Steenburgen. She’s slated for a guest appearance in one episode of the show but it’s unclear what her role will be. According to What’s On Netflix, other guest stars include Tamika Simpkins, Chrisanne Eastwood, and Kasey Mahaffy.
What does season six hold for Grace and Frankie?
Plot details haven’t been released yet for the newest season, but by the end of season five, Grace accepted Nick’s proposal and they got married. That detail will obviously drive much of season six, but fans note that the two besties always figure out how to navigate their problems in end—it just takes them a while to get there.
Entertainment Weekly shared on-set photos for season six, and it looks like Brianna has a new man, Steenburgen’s character is somehow connected to Nick, and Sol and Robert are still going strong.
Grace and Frankie was renewed for a seventh and final season, and fans can expect 13 episodes in the upcoming year and 16 for the last installment. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix’s VP of Originals Cindy Holland said this about the final renewal:
“Since its premiere in 2015, Grace and Frankie has expertly and hilariously demystified the experience of growing older and given a voice to the fastest growing segment of our population. Jane, Lily, Sam and Martin have become role models for fans that span generations around the world, and we are so proud to have been a part of the show’s journey from day one.”
Jan. 15 can’t come soon enough for what will be Netflix’s longest-running original series.
