Here’s Why Justin Bieber Is ‘Seeking Treatment’ for Depression — Plus What Hailey Baldwin Has to Do With It
Justin Bieber has been in the news a lot lately. First it was because of his on again/off again romance with Hailey Baldwin, who the 24-year-old singer married in a secret ceremony in late 2018. Then there was that interview in Vogue, where Bieber discussed his struggles with fame, self-imposed celibacy, and made the now-famous quote: “Marriage is hard.”
Now Bieber is in the spotlight again thanks to multiple sources confirming that he’s seeking treatment for depression, which he claims has “nothing to do” with his marriage to Baldwin.
What’s going on with Justin Bieber?
Things have been strange with Bieber lately and now the celebrity is admitting it’s time to ask for help. As one source explained, Bieber has been “struggling a bit” and seems especially “down and tired.” But that same source is quick to says that Hailey Baldwin is not the source of his strife – even if he already admitted marriage is challenging.
“He has good help around him and is receiving some treatment. He seems confident he will feel better soon,” the source said.
Why is Justin Bieber depressed?
The celebrity was spotted out walking on Monday with Carl Lentz, his pastor at Hillsong Church. But apparently his newfound religion isn’t the cause of his depression either. Bieber blames his anxiety and depressive tendencies on being famous so long – and on becoming famous at such a young age. He said these factors make it hard for him to trust people.
As one source explained to People, Justin is “emotional and struggles a lot with the idea of fame.”
“He started off as a typical sweet, Canadian teen. He was such a great kid, honestly super sweet and very polite and nice to everyone around him. Having this huge amount of fame completely changed him,” the source said. “He had access to anything and everything and was surrounded by people who just said ‘Yes.’”
The source went on, “He’s emotional and struggles a lot with the idea of fame — being followed, having his every move stalked by fans, cameras in his face. It all sets him off and he often feels like everyone is out to get him.”
Bieber also felt the pressure from everyone
Becoming a star comes with plenty of pressure – like the feeling that you need to keep doing well, no matter what. The source explained that Justin Bieber put the pressure on himself but also that his parents were a source of those feelings. Like any child, Bieber just wanted to make them proud.
“He and Jeremy (his father) have a complicated relationship. Jeremy pushed him really hard and expected a lot out of him. He’s been up and down with Pattie (his mom) too,” the source explains.
Bieber admitted in his Vogue interview that the fame affected him negatively. He said he had a “legitimate problem with sex” and used it to try to fill the void. “I found myself doing things that I was so ashamed of, being super-promiscuous and stuff, and I think I used Xanax because I was so ashamed,” he said. He got depressed while on tour in 2017 and wound up canceling 14 performances because of it.
This isn’t the first time Bieber has been in treatment for depression. Hopefully Justin Bieber receives the help he needs.
