Here’s Why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Won’t Be Spending As Much Time With Kate Middleton and Prince William

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and Prince William are pretty much the royal dream team. However, it appears the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be spending a lot less time with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. According to People, “Prince William and Prince Harry are considering breaking up their joint ‘court’ at Kensington Palace and creating two separate offices.”

So what’s the reason behind the royal couples planning to go their separate ways? Here’s what we know.

The ‘dynamic of the relationship’ has changed

It appears to come down to each couple’s separate interests — though it doesn’t seem to be personal. Royals author Sally Bedell Smith told People, “The arrival of Meghan has changed the dynamic of the relationship in a fairly significant way. It is inevitable and practical because it gives Harry and Meghan some freedom to build up their own collection of interests and charities.”

“Meghan has very strong views on what she is interested in and that may be what Harry shares, but not what William and Kate share,” she added. It’s suspected that they’ll likely begin the process of working separately once Markle gives birth to her first child with Harry.

Harry and Markle can handle their duties on their own

While Harry and Markle may have been following in the footsteps of the more seasoned royal couple, William and Kate, they now seem to be comfortable enough taking care of their own royal duties as a pair. For starters, Harry and Markle handled their royal tour of Australia like total pros.

Markle delivered three speeches in support of women’s issues (something she was passionate about long before joining the royal family). While she may continue looking to Middleton for help with refining her royal etiquette skills, she’s already proving to have confidence in her duties.

William is preparing to be king

Now that the day Prince Charles will take over as king seems to be nearing in, William will soon be next in line for the throne. That means he and Middleton have totally different duties than Harry and Markle do. It makes sense on their end, as well, why they’d want to start doing their work separately.

They won’t ‘break up’ on all fronts

Just because Harry and Markle are stepping away from working closely with William and Middleton on most of their royal duties, they aren’t completely going their separate ways. According to People, they’re “likely to keep their successful Royal Foundation, under which they organize their charitable endeavors and their groundbreaking mental health campaign, intact.”

Bedell Smith explained, “They have brought many charities working in the same sector together to empower them and lend their positions.” She added, “But they will increasingly follow their own respective interests.”

“I think it really is just a shift in priorities and interests. William is a husband and father of three and his focus is primarily on them, and Harry will soon be a father,” she continued. “Each of them will continue the very strong representative of the Queen in carrying out tasks and assignments that she, and probably their father, wants them to do. They are going to be sharing in this diffusion of activities on behalf of the Queen.”
