Here’s Why Some ‘Counting On’ Fans Think Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo Are No Different Than the Other Duggars

When Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo wed back in 2016, they quickly became known as the most rebellious Duggar couple. Vuolo whisked Duggar away from her small Arkansas town, and the two settled down far from her family in Laredo, Texas. Duggar started acting more rebelliously by wearing pants and tank tops and dying her hair. And while some fans are thrilled to see that she is breaking away from her parents’ strict rules, others actually don’t think she and Vuolo are different from the rest of them at all.

Duggar had very strict rules to follow growing up

When Duggar was a child, she was required to follow her parents’ extremely strict rules. Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar didn’t allow their daughters to wear pants because pants might show their curves and entice men. They weren’t allowed to dance, since that promoted promiscuity. And modern television and music was off limits. Duggar was homeschooled and never played any sports, and the only people she associated with other than her siblings were those she knew from church-related activities. It makes sense that once she got older, she was dying to stray from that lifestyle a bit.

She and Vuolo established more relaxed rules when they got married

When Duggar met Vuolo, the two didn’t court right away. Vuolo is also very religious, but he had the chance to attend public school and played soccer at Syracuse University. He lived a more normal life than Duggar, though he still had a very strong faith. And that’s essentially how their lifestyle is today. The two are very deeply rooted in religion, but Duggar doesn’t play by such strict rules anymore. She wears pants and tank tops, and she recently dyed her hair blonde. Plus, she and Vuolo just moved to Los Angeles, which is a very liberal city, and they seem to be adjusting well to their new home. They’re enjoying the same things (food, sightseeing, and sporting events) that other Americans do.

Some fans think Vuolo is just as controlling as the other Duggars

Despite seeming more modern on the surface, some Counting On fans aren’t convinced that Duggar’s life is any different from the way it used to be. Some still see Vuolo as just as controlling as Jim Bob Duggar; Jinger Duggar doesn’t have a job, and the only reason they moved to Los Angeles was so Duggar could take graduate classes. People argue that their life still revolves around him. One Reddit user suggested that Vuolo only married Duggar to put his name out there and further his career as a pastor. “Jeremy truly is reaping the Duggar rewards,” the post read. The user also said that anyone who believes this couple is different is only “drinking the Vuolo marinara sauce.”

But Duggar has expressed raising her daughter differently than she was raised

Though some argue that Duggar and Vuolo’s life is no different than her other family members, it’s easy to disagree. Duggar recently posted a photo suggesting that her daughter might follow in her father’s footsteps and play soccer one day — joining a sports team was unheard of for a Duggar child under Michelle and Jim Bob’s control. Plus, Duggar and Vuolo have only had one daughter in their nearly three-year marriage; they’re not popping out children the way many of the Duggars do, showing that they are straying from her family’s norm in at least a few ways.
