Here’s Why Taylor Swift’s Fans Are Attacking Sia

Remember all that drama that went down between Taylor Swift and Scooter Braun earlier this week? ICYMI, Swift slammed Braun on Tumblr for purchasing her former label Big Machine Records, which gave him the rights to her early music, for $300 million. The deal upset her because Braun, she claimed, had been bullying her for “years.”

Since the post, several celebrities have publicly taken sides, defending either the 10-time Grammy award-winning singer or the mega talent manager — including Sia.

The “Chandelier” singer appeared to side with Braun, prompting a load of angry messages from Swifties. Take a look at what they’re saying below.

What Sia said

On July 1, Sia took to Twitter to share a kind message to Braun. “You’re a good kind man @scooterbraun. I hope this passes quickly. I love you keep going,” wrote the singer.

She’s not the only one who defended Braun. Some of his clients, including Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato, also stood up for him. But Sia might be the only person who has gotten dragged like this.

What Swifties said

Swifties accused Sia of supporting misogyny by siding with Braun. Then they scoured the internet and dug up some dirt on the singer, which does not look good.

They found and posted these photos of Sia from years ago allegedly in blackface:

In response, Sia said they took the photos out of context. She tweeted that she used the face paint as a part of a performance dating back to 2011.

“For the Swift fans trying to make out that I would ever do blackface, please see this video,” she wrote. “I was painting myself into the backdrop, it was a precursor to the wig.” (Sia famously wears wigs to conceal her face.)

Unfortunately for her, Swifties continued to slam her, with one person writing, “You are literally irrelevant. In the backdrop is the only place you belong.” Ouch.

This feud is getting uglier

There’s a lot of “he said, she said” going on here. Music industry executive and founder of Big Machine Label Group Scott Borchetta claimed that Swift was allowed to purchase her masters, but Swift’s lawyer has denied that.

“Scott Borchetta never gave Taylor Swift an opportunity to purchase her masters, or the label, outright with a check in the way he is now apparently doing for others,” her lawyer Donald Passman said in a statement.

According to The Blast, Braun has reached out to Swift in an attempt to talk things out. He apparently wants to tell her, “the main reason he purchased her catalog is because he believes in her music and in her future.” However, Swift reportedly hasn’t been so, um, open. She hasn’t even commented on the drama since the Tumblr post.

It’s unclear if anyone else will chime in on this beef, but The Blast reports that Braun has been asking people to stay out of it. If Sia’s situation is any indication, that’s a great idea.
