These Are the Highlights From the Final ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Trailer
With a little over a month until its premiere, the final trailer for Avengers: Endgame has dropped. The film, which marks the culmination of more than a decade and 21 other movies of build up, is due out on April 26, 2019. Though it doesn’t give too much away (as is Marvel’s tradition), the trailer does offer plenty of new, exciting details. Let’s dig in:
It features footage from previous movies
A lot of the trailer is in black and white, with highlights of color. This indicates footage from previous Marvel films. We see Tony recalling what he feels like was “a thousand years ago” in the first Iron Man.
Steve also recalls his origins. We see the skinny version of him, pre-experimentation in Captain America: The First Avenger. This footage is shown with a voiceover from Peggy, who is also the narration for the reunion between Natasha and Cliff, who is now (presumably) Ronin. Thor also gets a brief moment of recollection with his Odin, but his focus is on all of the Avengers who were lost in the snap.
Ant-Man learns of the snap
One of the most intriguing details (and entertaining moments) from the first trailer was Scott Lang’s surprise appearance at Marvel headquarters. We get another shot of him in this trailer, in which he’s realizing that something is very wrong when he sees a telephone pole covered in “Missing Persons” flyers. There’s still no indication as to how he got out of the Quantum Realm.
Rocket makes another friend
The Guardians of the Galaxy have all but disappeared: Star-Lord, Drax, and Groot all turned to dust, while Gamora was sacrificed by Thanos for the Soul Stone. Only Rocket and Nebula remain. Rocket, though not exactly the friendliest of creatures, is certainly a survivor, and formed a little bond with Bucky (now the White Wolf) in Infinity War. Now, we see him riding on the back of War Machine, so it appears as though he’s assimilated to the Avengers and Earth just fine.
As for Nebula, she also appears for a brief moment. She’s a hero who will, undoubtedly, go out fighting, and she has arguably lost the most of anyone. If she wasn’t determined to find Thanos before, she certainly is now
A closer look at one of the best scenes
In the Super Bowl spot, we saw a moment in which several of the Avengers talked through headquarters in shadow. Now, we get a closer look at that, including the faces of Steve, Scott, Natasha, Tony, Nebula, Rhodey, and Cliff. (We can assume that Rocket is also in this scene, as he was in the shadowed one, but because of the camera angle that only shows the heroes from their torsos up, he isn’t visible.)
What’s most exciting about this scene (other than the reveal that Tony and Nebula do, in fact, meet up with the rest of the Avengers) are the suits donned by the heroes. They’re white with red and black accents, and have the “A” Avengers symbol over the breast. They bear a resemblance to the suit worn by Scott when he goes into the Quantum Realm, which may indicate what their plan of attack is.
Thor meets Captain Marvel
The final moment in these trailers, following the title card, is generally a light one. This one is no different. Some time after she first shows up, as seen in the Captain Marvel post-credit scene, Thor is shown approaching Carol Danvers, now dressed in all black. He looks her in the eyes, and summons his new hammer.
When she fails to flinch or look away, he turns to Natasha and Rhodey and says, “I like this one.” This has some fans excited for a romance between the two, though it could just be a fun establishing moment for their characters. But we’ll have to wait until Avengers: Endgame is released to find out.
