Hilary Duff Is Married! What to Know About Her ‘Secret’ Ceremony
Hilary Duff has officially found her happy ending. According to multiple reports, the Lizzie McGuire actress has married her fiancé Matthew Koma. The pair got engaged earlier in the year, but there was no word on when Duff and Koma planned to tie the knot. On Dec. 21, however, they reportedly made it official. Here’s what to know about their secret ceremony.
Inside Hilary Duff’s secret wedding
Just Jared reported on Dec. 22 that Duff and Koma got married in their backyard in front of a few friends and family members. The wedding allegedly went down one day earlier.
“The wedding was at her house. It was small and low-key. Only family and close friends,” a source added to People.
“The ceremony started at sunset and they got married inside the house. When the ceremony was over, guests cheered. The reception was in a white tent in the backyard,” the source continued. “Her sister Haylie was very involved in the wedding prep too. Hilary and Haylie are very close.”
As of writing, neither Duff or Koma has publicly commented on their alleged nuptials. But Duff’s stylist, Jessica Paster, dropped a hint about the reported ceremony on Instagram. “Winter solstice … a day of luv,” she captioned a photo of what appears to be a bouquet.
Who is Matthew Koma?
According to AllMusic, Koma is a singer, songwriter, and producer. He’s reportedly worked with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Clarkson, and Tinashe.
He and Duff met in the early 2010s and initially had a working relationship. They collaborated for the first time in 2015 when they created tracks for Duff’s album, Breathe In. Breathe Out.
After the studio sessions, a source told Us Weekly, “They had great chemistry in the studio. Hilary thinks Matt is very talented and cute.”
At the time, Duff was fresh out of her first marriage to NHL star Mike Comrie, with whom she shares a son, Luca, 7.
Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma announced their relationship shortly after
In January of 2017, Duff and Koma went public with their relationship. The couple split two months later but were back together by the fall of 2017.
“It’s going so great,” Duff said of the romance.

Duff and Koma welcomed their daughter, Banks Violet Bair, that October.
Then in May of 2019, Koma popped the question. “He asked me to be his wife,” Duff captioned a series of Instagram photos, in which she showed off a massive sparkler.
Koma reposted the images on his page, adding, “I asked my best friend to marry me… @hilaryduff.”
