Hilary Duff Confirmed ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Reboot for Disney Plus and Fans Are Freaking Out

It’s official, Lizzie McGuire is all grown up and fans of the Disney Channel series will be able to see her new journey in a reboot set for Disney Plus. Hilary Duff confirmed the news during the D23 Expo event taking place in Anaheim, California this weekend. The news came as a surprise to all fans and they quickly took to Twitter to freak out about it.

What Is The Original ‘Lizzie McGuire’ About?

The original Disney Channel half-hour comedy ran from 2001 to 2004 with 65 episodes produced and aired. Duff plays Lizzie, a 13-year-old girl that only wants to fit in at school and be popular. Lizzie has an animated alter ego that showcases her feelings and thoughts.

Lizzie McGuire also starred Lalaine and Adam Lamberg who were Lizzie’s best friends Miranda and Gordo respectively. Episodes of the show centered around Lizzie dealing with normal teenage issues and her dealing with her two parents and pesky little brother Matt, played by Jake Thomas.

What Is The New ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Series Going To Be About?

Duff made the announcement during the Disney Plus panel at the D23 Expo event that is all about Disney and its properties. According to Variety, the creator of the sitcom, Terri Minsky, will be returning for the revival and paving its way for new generations to discover.

“Lizzie has also grown up, she’s older, she’s wiser, she has a much bigger shoe budget,” Duff revealed about the new series. She added, “She has her dream job, the perfect life right now working as an apprentice to a fancy New York City decorator.”

Lizzie is all grown-up and her character now has “the perfect man who owns a fancy restaurant” and she is now “getting ready to celebrate her 30th birthday.”

News of the rebooted series comes 6 years after The Lizzie McGuire Movie that was released in theatres taking in over $40 million at the American box office and over $55 million worldwide. Shortly after there were rumors that the ABC network, that Disney also owns, was working on a spin-off series with Lizzie now in high school, but that never materialized.

What Fans Are Saying About The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Revival Series

Shortly after the announcement of the Lizzie McGuire revival, nostalgic fans took to Twitter to freak out about the exciting news.

“I’m so thrilled! This means so much to me. I built my first website when I was 12 and it was Dedicated to Lizzie McGuire/Hilary Duff. Can’t wait for Disney+. Take all my money,” a nostalgic fan wrote.

“They’re bringing back Lizzie McGuire, my life is complete,” another fan wrote.

“So in grade school, I was known as the Hilary Duff girl, and they’re rebooting Lizzie McGuire! My time to shine right. If I see any of you clowns bullied me endlessly for liking Hilary/Lizzie be like, ‘oh I’m so excited’, I will go Kill Bill on you,” a superfan expressed.

Fans already have questions about the direction the revival will be taking. “So my question is, will the Lizzie McGuire sequel address the fever dream that was the Lizzie McGuire Movie or will they be skipping that?” a viewer of the original series pondered.

Duff also took to social media to share her thoughts on the new series. “Surprise!” she posted on Instagram. “I’ve been trying to contain this excitement for a long time while this has been in the works! I am beyond excited to be home again, back with my girl and into her 30s.”
