Grab some hot chocolate and Christmas cookies — the holidays are right around the corner and there are plenty of Christmas movies on Netflix worth streaming this season. From Vanessa Hudgens’ The Princess Switch to Bing Crosby’ White Christmas, here are five-binge worthy holiday movies available for streaming on Netflix.
‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’
Am I just watching Netflix because I’m bored? This version of Dr. Seuss’ classic story features Jim Carrey as the comical and lovable Grinch. When the Grinch saves Cindy Lou during a chance encounter, the Who goes on a journey to discover why, exactly, the Grinch hates Christmas so much. Viewers see the journey of this character from childhood and how, eventually, he learns to love the holiday.
Thankfully, Christmas came early for Netflix subscribers — How the Grinch Stole Christmas is available on the streaming platform. Additionally, another adaptation of this book, Illumination’s The Grinch is also on Netflix this holiday season.
If you’re in the mood for a true Christmas throwback, White Christmas is one of the oldest holiday movies available for streaming on Netflix. This movie stars Bing Crosby, who you may recognize from his Christmas album. One of his most popular songs, “White Christmas,” dates back to this movie which premiered in 1954.
This movie tells the story of four friends who helps to put on a Yuletide celebration to save a local Vermont Inn from closing as a result of financial struggles.
Dr. Seuss’ ‘The Grinch’
Released in theaters during 2018 Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, is the latest adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic story. Benedict Cumberbatch voices the title character. Throughout the course of the movie, with a little help from his dog, Max, the Grinch discovers the true meaning of Christmas. There are songs from groups like Pentatonix and a few jokes to put you in the holiday spirit.
‘The Princess Switch’
While Netflix has multiple original holiday movies available for streaming, this is one of the most recently released. Similar to movies like The Parent Trap, this movie stars Vanessa Hudgens as the ambitious and charitable baker, Stacy De Novo, and as the poised Duchess Margaret Delacourt.
When the two run into each other by chance, Duchess Margaret comes up with a plan to switch with Stacy, so she can have a chance to live as a “normal person” before marrying the Prince of Belgravia. There’s romance, there’s Vanessa Hudgens, and there’s Christmas — a recipe for success. Additionally, this actress stars in the holiday film The Knight Before Christmas, also available for streaming on Netflix.
‘The Nutcracker and the Four Realms’
Everyone knows the story of Clara, her nutcracker, and the evil Rat King. What people might not know is Disney’s 2018 adaptation of this film is available for streaming on Netflix.
Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms stars Keira Knightley, Morgan Freeman, Misty Copeland and Helen Mirren. With such an iconic soundtrack and cast list, this is the perfect movie to have on while baking cookies or wrapping presents.
