5 Hollywood Rumors: Is Channing Tatum Joining the DC Universe?

Hollywood Rumors
Every week, we take an in-depth look at the latest Hollywood rumors, from casting speculation to potential directorial choices to the latest TV revivals. This week brought us plenty more gossip, from the potential new title for the upcoming Wolverine 3 to the latest American Horror Story vet reportedly set to return in Season 6 to Channing Tatum’s rumored appearance in The Flash movie. Below, check out the five biggest Hollywood rumors of the week.

1. The Wolverine 3 may have this title

Fox has yet to reveal the official title for Hugh Jackman’s third Wolverine movie, but a new report from Gamezone claims it will refer to the early days of his mutant life. According to the report, “sources close to the project have revealed that the title of the upcoming film will be Weapon X.”

The rumor conflicts with past rumors that Wolverine 3 would take inspiration from Old Man Logan (a comic that follows the character later in life), but it does forge a connection to Jackman’s appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse. That cameo (warning: spoilers ahead) centered on the Weapon X storyline where scientists bond Wolverine’s skeleton with the adamantium that makes his bones and claws indestructible.

Fox has yet to comment on the speculation. Whatever it’s called, Wolverine 3 is set to open in theaters on March 3, 2017.

2. Will Channing Tatum show up in DC’s The Flash movie?

When it was first announced that Dope director Rick Famuyiwa would be helming Warner Bros.’ upcoming The Flash movie, eagle-eyed Reddit users noticed that the filmmaker started following a slew of DC-related Twitter accounts, including that of Geoff Johns and Mark Waid. Also among the newly followed names? None other than Channing Tatum.

The move — which did not go unnoticed by highly observant Redditors — immediately sparked speculation that Tatum could be joining the DC universe. The actor was supposed to star in the Gambit movie, but that project has since been delayed. With that film on the backburner for now and Famiuyiwa apparently showing an interest in the actor, rumor has it that Channing Tatum will play a role (perhaps that of Captain Cold?) in The Flash flick.

Of course, a Twitter follow isn’t exactly a lot to go on, so take this all with a big grain of salt for now. The Flash movie is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2018.

3. American Horror Story Season 6 may bring back a Coven star

Audiences have yet to learn the full cast details for the upcoming season of FX’s horror anthology series, but a new report suggests that an actor from AHS‘s third season, Coven, will be returning to the series. Leslie Jordan, who guest starred as Quentin Fleming in Coven, seemingly confirmed that he’d be joining Season 6 in a recent interview with the Washington Blade.

The actor revealed he’s set to begin filming on the show this summer, saying, “I’m booked all summer, then on July 7, I go back to American Horror Story with Lady Gaga, isn’t that fun?”

He also added that he had previously turned down a part in the show’s fourth season, Freak Season. “I did one season on Coven. They offered me another season but I got offered a reality show in London and I needed the money,” he explained. “Let me tell you, those reality shows pay a lot of money. So I turned down Freak Show, biggest mistake of my life. I didn’t think Mr. (Ryan) Murphy would want me again because I turned him down, but he did.”

The title for AHS‘s sixth season has yet to be revealed and is expected to air sometime this fall.

4. The Walking Dead may have cast the role of Ezekiel

Rumors have been swirling that The Walking Dead will introduce the comic character, Ezekiel, in its next season. The speculation was seemingly confirmed by a casting call in April, describing a character that sounded suspiciously like Ezekiel. Now, Facebook group The Spoiling Dead Fans is claiming that the role may have been filled by Lost actor Harold Perrineau.

Per The Spoiling Dead, witnesses thought they spotted Perrineau on the set of the zombie drama. The possible casting was further fueled by the fact that the actor had recently started following Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman on Twitter.

While Perrineau may be a popular pick for the role among fans, AMC has denied the actor’s casting, telling ComicBook.com that “there is no validity” to the rumor. The Spoiling Dead has also since issued a retractment, stating their witnesses may have been mistaken.

The Walking Dead will return for Season 7 this fall.

5. Warner Bros. might see more shakeups after Batman v. Superman

Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice grossed over $800 million worldwide, but didn’t fare so well critically. The movie earned mostly negative reviews from fans and critics alike, so it came as no huge surprise when it was reported earlier this year that DC’s Geoff Johns was stepping in to help Zack Snyder steer the DC cinematic universe.

But it seems the lackluster reaction to the movie may have caused more repercussions than we initially thought. According to the New York Post, Warner Bros. isn’t done shuffling around its DC Films team and is purportedly planning to make “wider management changes” in the next six months, all because of the poor reception to Batman v Supeman. Specific names that were mentioned included head of production Greg Silverman and president of worldwide marketing and distribution Sue Kroll.

Whether the report is accurate and Warner Bros. is about to see many more shakeups remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure: The studio has a lot of pressure to deliver a hit with its next DC film, Suicide Squad.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will see a Blu-ray release on July 19. Suicide Squad will hit theaters August 5.
