Every week, we take an in-depth look at the latest Hollywood rumors, from casting chatter to potential directorial choices to the latest TV revivals. This week brought us plenty more speculation, including the rumored villain for Man of Steel 2, the latest on The Predator reboot, and the potential return of a long-lost character to Game of Thrones Season 7. Below, check out the five biggest rumors coming out of Hollywood this week.
1. Man of Steel 2 may feature Brainiac as the villain
Though Warner Bros. has already confirmed the development of a Man of Steel sequel, details have been kept under tight wraps so far — but that hasn’t stopped rumors from circulating. The latest online speculation suggests that Superman may be facing off against Brainiac in the upcoming sequel.
As comic fans know, Brainiac is one of Superman’s primary enemies, and is responsible for shrinking and stealing Kandor, the capital city of Superman’s home planet Krypton. Though several variations of Brainiac have appeared in the comics, most incarnations depict him as a bald, green-skinned being in humanoid form. Fans have theorized that Brainiac may evolve from a new type of computer operating system created by Lex Luthor.
All of this remains speculation for now, so fans will have to stay tuned for more details on the movie. Man of Steel 2 doesn’t have a release date yet.
2. Lady Gaga could be the next Super Bowl halftime performer
Lady Gaga may take on one of the biggest musical gigs in the world. According to Billboard, the pop star is currently in talks to perform at the halftime show during the 51st annual Super Bowl, taking place on February 5, 2017. The news comes after previous speculation that Adele could be performing at the show. The NFL has yet to officially confirm Gaga’s participation.
“We have had conversations with several fantastic artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, at this point we do not have a final decision,” an NFL rep told Billboard. “We’re happy there is so much excitement about the show.”
3. Robert Downey Jr. may team with Jon Favreau again

Downey and Favreau have been friends since the latter directed and co-starred in 2008’s Iron Man. Now, the two may be joining forces once again. Downey recently posted a photo of himself and Favreau with a bunch of famous Marvel names — and a celebrity chef.
As seen in the photo above, the two were captured meeting with Tom Holland (aka the new Spider-Man), brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (the directors of the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War), Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and celebrity chef Roy Choi (the inspiration behind Favreau’s comedy-drama Chef).
So what project could bring together a chef and some Marvel heavy hitters? It’s too early to tell, but Choi also posted the photo and advised his followers to stay tuned. In the meantime, audiences can catch Favreau reprising his role as Tony Stark’s driver Happy Hogan in Spider-Man: Homecoming next year.
4. Benicio Del Toro might star in The Predator reboot
According to Deadline, Del Toro is in early talks to star in the upcoming Predator reboot, produced by 20th Century Fox and directed by Shane Black. It remains unclear whether he’ll play “Quinn Mckenna,” — the only name from the script that Black has revealed thus far — or another character, should he officially sign on to the project. His casting isn’t a done deal yet, as a contract has yet to be formally struck. Still, audiences can likely expect an official announcement sooner rather than later, as The Predator reboot is on track to begin filming next year. The film is set to hit theaters in February 2018.
5. This Game of Thrones character could return to Season 7
With Game of Thrones stars finally starting to touch down in Belfast this month for production on Season 7, eagle-eyed fans are fervently keeping watch to catch signs of their favorite returning actors. But one such sighting may have just revealed a major spoiler for the upcoming season. According to Game of Thrones fan site, Watchers on the Wall, Joe Dempsie, who plays Gendry Baratheon in the show, was recently spotted at the airport in Belfast, leading many to believe that the long-lost character could be reappearing on the show next season.

As fans know, the last time we saw Gendry, he was stealing away to King’s Landing on a rowboat in Season 3. The character hasn’t appeared on the show since, but considering that Dempsie doesn’t seem to be linked to any other projects in the Irish city, it looks like he might soon be making a comeback.
HBO has yet to comment on his return, but fans are keeping a close watch for any other sightings in Belfast. It might be a while before any details are made official, as Game of Thrones isn’t set to return to TV until mid-2017.
