5 Hollywood Rumors: A ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Cameo, and More
Every week, we take an in-depth look at the latest Hollywood rumors, from casting chatter to potential directorial choices to the newest TV revivals. This week brought us plenty more speculation, including possible casting for the upcoming Ocean’s Eight film, a rumored addition to Game of Thrones Season 7, and the latest on Christopher Nolan’s drama, Dunkirk. Below, check out the five biggest rumors coming out of Hollywood this week.
1. Damian Lewis could play the Ocean’s Eight villain
The upcoming Ocean’s Eight film, starring an ensemble cast of A-list actresses, may have just found its villain. According to Variety, Damian Lewis is entering “final negotiations” to join the cast as the primary antagonist. Though no contract have officially been signed yet, the publication reports that Lewis has been seen on set in recent weeks. If a deal closes, Lewis will reportedly play an ex-boyfriend of Bullock’s character, who is the de factor leader of the crew. Ocean’s Eight will hit theaters on June 8, 2018.
2. Footage of Dunkirk may air before certain Rogue One screenings
Other than the teaser that came out in August for Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Dunkirk, we haven’t heard much else about the movie — until now. New reports suggest that footage of the new film will be aired before certain screenings of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The scoop comes from SlashFilm, who reports that seven minutes of Dunkirk will screen ahead of the IMAX 70mm screenings of Rogue One. Only 13 theaters in 10 different states are showing the movie in this format, so fans will have to plan ahead if they want to catch some early footage. Otherwise, keep July 21 free for when Dunkirk hits theaters.
3. Groot may eventually battle Hulk in the MCU
Vin Diesel, who plays Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, recently hinted that a battle may eventually take place between large Marvel characters: Groot versus Hulk. In a recent interview with Screen Junkies, Diesel said the Groot-Hulk fight will happen, but it’s just a matter of when. As he said:
That’s an interesting question. I think, if it’s up to James Gunn, you’re going to see a Groot/Rocket movie after [Avengers:] Infinity War. I think that’s highly possible. We shall see. I know that, somewhere in the universe, you’re going to see Groot and Hulk battle. I know it. You can write it somewhere, you’re going to see that poster: Groot vs Hulk.
There is no current estimate as to when exactly this fight could happen or in what movie, but one thing’s for sure: Groot will need to grow back to his non-infant size before entering battle.
4. Good Girls Revolt could return on another network
Earlier this week, Amazon made the surprising move of canceling its freshman period drama, Good Girls Revolt. The show earned strong reviews in its launch and though the company doesn’t release ratings numbers, we know it ranked as one of Amazon’s biggest series ever among female viewers. So what went wrong? Creator Dana Calvo recently hinted that Amazon Studios head Roy Price is to blame. Whatever the case, it’s not all over for the show just yet.
Sony is reportedly shopping the series around to other platforms. According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC, Freeform, USA Network, Bravo, and Hulu are among the networks in line to potentially pick up the show for a second season, with Netflix and Lifetime both considered long shots. Whether the drama will officially return on one of those channels remains to be seen. Fans will likely get an answer sooner rather than later, as the existing contracts for cast members are set to expire on December 31.
5. Game of Thrones Season 7 might feature Conor McGregor
Could UFC favorite Conor McGregor make an appearance in Game of Thrones Season 7? Take this with a grain of salt for now, but Watchers on the Wall is reporting that the fighter may soon be featured in the drama. According to the report, one of the Game of Thrones directors is a huge UFC fan and believes that McGregor will be “a perfect fit for the show.” Though nothing is official yet, the report suggests that “it’s been agreed that McGregor will appear in one of the remaining two seasons of Game of Thrones.” Who exactly he would play is still undetermined, but he could fit into any number of cameo roles in the upcoming seasons. Season 7 of Game of Thrones bows in mid-2017.
