5 Hollywood Rumors: Is Lupita Nyong’o Joining ‘Black Panther’?
Every week, we take an in-depth look at the latest rumors coming out of Hollywood, from casting speculation to potential directorial choices to the latest TV revivals. This week brought us plenty more gossip, from the possible latest addition to the Black Panther cast to a potential cameo in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Below, check out five of the biggest Hollywood rumors of the week.
1. The Good Wife could get a spin-off
The long rumored Good Wife spin-off could apparently soon become a reality. According to Deadline, CBS’s SVOD platform CBS All Access is in negotiations for a straight-to-series order of the project, which would center on Christine Baranski’s attorney character, Diane Lockhart. Cush Jumbo, who played the role of lawyer Lucca on Season 7, will also reportedly join her if the series moves forward.
Whether or not the rumored spin-off will come to fruition remains, but there is one piece of good news for fans: The Good Wife co-creators Robert and Michelle King are expected to return as executive producers, if the deal closes.
2. A Booster Gold movie may be in the works
Warner Bros. is reportedly expanding its DC cinematic universe to include Booster Gold. According to Birth.Movies.Death, the studio has reportedly tapped Thor and X-Men: First Class scribe Zack Stentz to develop a screenplay centered on the favorite DC Comics hero who was first introduced in 1986. The character is a time-traveler from the future who uses advanced technology and his knowledge of both the past and present to turn himself into a full-fledged hero.
Contrary to previous speculation that Booster Gold would team up with Blue Beetle on the big screen, it seems that Stentz’s project will focus solely Booster. And the best part? Greg Berlanti, the man behind DC TV hits like The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl, is reportedly on board to produce the movie.
Berlanti and Warner Bros. have yet to comment on the project, so stay tuned for more details.
3. Lupita Nyong’o is in line to star in Black Panther
Nyong’o could soon become part of the Marvel universe. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-winning actress is in line to play Black Panther’s love interest in the hero’s upcoming solo film. The publication reports that Nyong’o is currently in negotiations with Marvel for the role, although a deal hasn’t been formalized
It remains unclear exactly who the star is considering playing, as Black Panther has had a number of love interests over the years — including X-Men‘s Storm. Production on Black Panther is set to start in early 2017, so Nyong’o will likely make a final decision sooner rather than later.
4. Star Wars: Episode VIII may feature a Tom Hardy cameo
Tom Hardy could be taking a page out of Daniel Craig’s notebook. Rumor has it that Hardy has a cameo in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII, in which which he —like Craig —will play the role of a First Order Stormtrooper. The report hails from Making Star Wars, which also claims that Hardy will share a scene with John Boyega. According to the report, Hardy will recognize Boyega’s Finn from their training days. Under the impression that Finn is now working as a First Order spy, Hardy’s trooper will let him go.
J.J. Abrams did include a few fun cameos in The Force Awakens, so an appearance from Hardy is possible. But considering this is only the latest of many rumors already surrounding Star Wars: Episode VIII, fans should probably take it with a grain of salt for now. The movie is set to hit theaters on December 15, 2017.
5. Willem Dafoe’s role in Justice League revealed?
In April, it was confirmed that Dafoe has joined the cast of DC’s Justice League movies. While details about his character weren’t revealed at the time, a new rumor from Birth. Movies. Death suggests that the actor will play an Atlantean in the film. For those unfamiliar, Atlanteans are the native species of the continent of Atlantis, Aquaman‘s home. The report doesn’t specific exactly which Atlantean Dafoe would play, but it’s been reported that his character will be a “good guy” in Justice League. We’ll have to wait for more character details in the upcoming months. Justice League: Part One will hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
